The thing is, Boehner isn't getting out of this alive, politically speaking. Let's make that clear- if he fails to avert a default, he's still ruined.
And so, facing unimaginable ruin, the GOP folded and let Obama have his health care system. The public enjoyed access to affordable insurance. Employers benefited from lower staff turn over and absentees due to sickness. The county grew and prospered, and the boost in democrat popularity led to other reforms too! Gay marriage was legalized on a federal level, environmental laws came into effect, education reform saw the US leading the world in science, engineering, literature and other high arts.

Six week later the stars were taken off the flag and replaced with a hammer and sickle, and the cruel, evil, Muslim dictator Obama ruled the Union of Soviet Socialist Democrats forever more.
The end!

Texas then secedes from the Union, nullifying the affordable care act there and becoming the last bastion for freedom in the western hemisphere

For anyone who missed the details of the Tea Party's mini-putsch yesterday, you can see some of the highlight video here.

Quote from: What that guy was apparently trying to say.
“I call upon all of you to wage a second American nonviolent revolution, to use civil disobedience, and to demand that this president leave town, to get up, to put the Quran down, to get up off his knees, and to figuratively come out with his hands up,” said Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch

Requisite photo of guy waving Confederate flag at the White House amidst a cheering crowd.  I'd like to meet one of those people who still insists every person holding a racist sign at these rallies is really an embedded liberal agitator.  At this point there'd have to be more plants than participants.

And yes, Senator Ted Cruz was the keynote speaker at this rally, although he left right after taking the stage.

There was a first nonviolent revolution in America. When?

Are we down to one day at this point?

Because by this point, I frankly expected there to be some popular proposal that both sides are going to call complete capitulation but which is actually an extremely generous but not total surrender by the Democrats, the result of which would be things carry on as usual but we have to go through this all again in 2-4 months.

But I haven't seen any news of actual negotiation at all.

Well, there's this: House G.O.P. Backs Off Plan, Leaving Fiscal Talks in Limbo. So basically, same old same old. From that article:

Quote
Representative Adam Kinzinger, Republican of Illinois, said that if House Republicans could not rally behind the proposal that their leadership rolled out Tuesday morning, they would most likely be forced to accept the plan taking shape in the Senate — something many Republican House members have already said is unacceptable.

...

House Republicans were extremely unhappy with the Senate plan.

“We’ve got a name for it in the House: it’s called the Senate surrender caucus,” said Representative Tim Huelskamp, Republican of Kansas. “Anybody who would vote for that in the House as Republican would virtually guarantee a primary challenger.”
Hyperbole! But the Senate plan might well end up being the one to pass. Clock is ticking.

We are at 35.25 hours and counting until doomsday.
If both parties end up like Mr. Denton, I'll be happy.

As little as I respect Robertson, he wields huge amounts of influence among the Christian Right. This may be enough to break the Tea Party boulder.

I don't. Not anymore. I think there are too many people who feel locked into their particular camp and feel that compromise of any kind (and this is true of both sides) is tantamount to surrender.

It's become a dick-waving contest.

Impossible! There aren't nearly enough Google Glass users to form even the most privileged of upper classes, let alone run the country with anything even resembling efficiency.

More seriously though, Robertson's input may well be a big deal, without the evangelical right, the tea party won't even be able to stand on it's current shaky leg. If he's taken seriously that is, and if his message is heard widely enough. There is still the distinct possibility that they will simply pretend they didn't hear him.

I'm surprised but glad he specifically asked for a nonviolent revolution.

On the deal, I'm still hopeful that they'll get something passed, though at this point it'll be anywhere from at the 11th hour to the first 24-48 hours after the deadline. And I imagine, especially in the House, it'll be passed begrudgingly.

(I should note that my hope at this point is based squarely on the belief that none of the involved leadership (yes, including Boehner) wants to actually cause a global financial apocalypse.)

For what it's worth, the federal government recognizes same-sex marriages now. All that's left is for the Supreme Court to rule state laws banning same-sex marriage unconstitutional (despite what this look likes, the only decision by the Supreme Court was that the appeals of this case (to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and the SCOTUS) by the supporters had no legal standing. It'll take more cases to say all state laws banning the thing are wrong. The inevitable case involving a couple getting married in a same-sex-supporting state and then moving to one that isn't, and what their union looks like in the eyes of the new state, should be interesting.)

Nah, it'd be the United Socialists of America.

Remember, they're lazy as hell, so anything that can let them keep calling it the USA is better. :D
It would certainly be called the United States Soviet Socialist Republic. Or USSSR (that's three S's!) for short.
