“I call upon all of you to wage a second American nonviolent revolution, to use civil disobedience, and to demand that this president leave town, to get up, to put the Quran down, to get up off his knees, and to figuratively come out with his hands up,” said Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch
I'm surprised but glad he specifically asked for a nonviolent revolution.
On the deal, I'm still hopeful that they'll get something passed, though at this point it'll be anywhere from at the 11th hour to the first 24-48 hours after the deadline. And I imagine, especially in the House, it'll be passed begrudgingly.
(I should note that my hope at this point is based squarely on the belief that none of the involved leadership (yes, including Boehner) wants to actually cause a global financial apocalypse.)
And so, facing unimaginable ruin, the GOP folded and let Obama have his health care system. The public enjoyed access to affordable insurance. Employers benefited from lower staff turn over and absentees due to sickness. The county grew and prospered, and the boost in democrat popularity led to other reforms too! Gay marriage was legalized on a federal level, environmental laws came into effect, education reform saw the US leading the world in science, engineering, literature and other high arts.
For what it's worth,
the federal government recognizes same-sex marriages now. All that's left is for the Supreme Court to rule state laws banning same-sex marriage unconstitutional (despite what
this look likes, the only decision by the Supreme Court was that the appeals of this case (to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and the SCOTUS) by the supporters had no legal standing. It'll take more cases to say all state laws banning the thing are wrong. The inevitable case involving a couple getting married in a same-sex-supporting state and then moving to one that isn't, and what their union looks like in the eyes of the new state, should be interesting.)
Nah, it'd be the United Socialists of America.
Remember, they're lazy as hell, so anything that can let them keep calling it the USA is better.
It would certainly be called the United States Soviet Socialist Republic. Or USSSR (that's three S's!) for short.
