I'm not angry, just disappointed by the increase in the use of slang. I don't understand the obsession with it. I prefer complete, well thought out sentences. I know I'm in the minority, I accept that people learn to write and spell from Twitter instead of school. But that doesn't mean I have to like it, or that I can't speak out about. Just as you can continue to butcher the English language I can continue to say you shouldn't.
God, I completely agree! Just the other day I was talking to someone about politics, and they had an opinion on public policy. "Oh, you took a course on the subject?" I asked. Do you know what they said? "No." No?
No? What did they do- just form an opinion
on their own? Did they just- just
read about it? What a moron! There's nothing worse than an autodidact. As far as I'm concerned, if it's not from school, it's not knowledge.
Especially when it comes to something as specialized as language. It's not like people are just automatically learn language- it's not as though we're just some specially privileged species, with a remarkable talent for acquiring huge vocabularies and using complex grammar structures. Do people think that we somehow evolved with a natural tendency to acquire the language that's being spoken around us. Ridiculous!
And why do people think they can just get away with using mutant strains of the pure tongue. It's a very carefully crafted language! Do they think it's just composed of words adapted from other langues over time, as the product of some blind process of linguistic evolution. Could we really have gotten by for thousands of years if we hadn't immediately standardized spelling and grammar. Do they think the rules of grammar that we use today are often just ad-hoc improvisations derived from observations of general practice in a particular period rather than carefully devised to be the very
best rules. Are they under the impression that when they speak imprecisely other people will often just be able to
guess what they mean. And most of all who gave them the idea that it was somehow better to speak in the same way as people around you than to always apply one set of rules in all situations while complaining about the ignorant majority.
I'll tell you what we need: moar teachers. We should put moar teacherz in ur internetz, 4 corectin ur grammarz. Dawg.
EDIT: Not, but seriously: volcanoes appear on the map as red triangles, and you can use the finder to find a site with a volcano. It's important to note that you're likely (but not certain) to have very steep cliffs around a surface volcano, so you might want to make a small embark if you have FPS issues.
And this sarcastic rant is intended humorously: I really don't care much about the silliness of grammar nazis. They're just hurting inside.
