I think what the Hellyfish is trying to say, is that Proxxy should have died by now(by the hand of Target in the Boss Room).

But you know, Boss Befriending in Chapter 2 and all sort of threw that out of the window.

Exactly. Further, we know from Oric's reaction to that befriending that this has happened before, but presumably what usually happens is Proxxy gets locked in that room and never escapes (or dies in the attempt)... unless guided by the spirit of the Astral Influx. Thus, the proper response to the Hellyfish's query would be to exposit on the Spirit of the Underworld thing (Proxxy being controlled by us and then gaining personal knowledge of that situation (e.g Polydectes) is presumably an extremely rare, possibly unique occurence)or otherwise prove our connection to the Astral Influx, but the context reactions don't match that and we don't have anything in our inventory we could offer as proof.
