You're all applying way too much IRL physics here.  The fan blades are part of the object.  The object is what is picked up.  Therefore it should be pick-up-able from next to the fan blades (just outside the spinning death zone radius).  Considering all the weird crap we've picked up, it seems like it would be inconsistent to not let us fan get, in a Portalesque "sorry, you can't stick a portal on this kind of wall because f u that's why".
