System restore does affect your files.... Greatly. System wipe on a drive, then transfer from the backup drive
Unless you made a backup drive, then of course you can check the backup for the files you lost, because they might have done a complete transfer

((No, it's not supposed to. It's supposed to only affect program and system files - it even tells you which ones it's going to change/remove. Then, once you complete it, it tells you that your documents have not been affected.

You might be thinking of a different program. I've used system restore well over a hundred times and only this morning did running it remove a bunch of files from my drive :I Thankfully Warrens' files themselves were unaffected.))

But Program files are on your drive!
It restores your system files from the last backup that was made. Mine is set to every file.

((Yeah, but those files weren't program files. And mine isn't set to every file.

Trust me, I'm a computer troubleshooter. I've done this not only for myself but for other people. I'll find what's making it act up.))

Did you try turning it off and back on?
Have you tried unplugging and plugging it back in?
Those are usually the solutions to all computer problems![/sarcasm]

People still use System Restore those days? o_0 What happened to solutions done by people who actually want to make good programs? (or rather want to make money, and are thus forced to make good products due to not having a monopoly) I mean, why would anybody not use Dropbox, at the very least?

((I prefer hard backups to dropbox. Sadly, I hadn't remembered to backup my code before my OS stopped booting, "safe mode" or not.

Update may not be for quite a while.))
