So, I have a few ideas, some of which have one or two sub-ideas, so I thought Id share with you people.
1. I think it would be a cool idea if every once in a while there was a "Health" roll to see if someone gets sick or an "Agility" check to see if someone gets hurt while doing stuff. Meaning at random times a prompt that says something like-
"Green Warrior hasn't been taking care of himself and has a heart attack!"
-that. And if they pass the "Health" roll, a prompt shouldn't pop up, and failing an "Agility" roll would look like-
"Green Warrior fell down so stairs and broke some bones!"
-this, with some more prompts of course, and some comical ones of course, it IS LCS.
If a Liberal could also roll for some sort of bonus or otherwise get a random positive, yeah, that could be neat. Even getting the not-bad result ought to provide some text. Otherwise, it's just a way that Bad Stuff happens for no player-preventable reason. Could be realistic, perhaps comical, but also the frustrating sort of Fun.
2. I always though fighting in LCS was a little cut and dry, so the idea of guns being able to jam came into my mind, a few updates ago actually, I just never brought it up. I think that it would be cool if swords could get dull after a while, and they would need to go have the blade sharpened.
Maintenance is realistic. Having to maintain weapons makes sense, were it not for Hollywood/JRPG conventions that swords, guns, etc never seem to dull, break, jam, or otherwise need maintenance unless The Plot calls for it. Perhaps having weapons go to D and eventually to 2/3/4 if they continued to be used under D conditions (say, a 5% chance each time), with Liberals set to Repair being able to fix the D status using their relevant weapon skills? (Problem: The AK-47 could justify being largely immune to that sort of degradation, given its IRL reliability. Might justify making it a Rare, comparable to the DE50AE or M249.)
3. Something I never liked is that bodies just stay in your safehouses forever, I think that after a while that bodies should decompose, making it so when cops raid a safehouse and find the bodies, they can't tell who, so the liberal above them doesn't lose juice. But so its not so OP they should only decompose very slowly.
I've never had bodies to dispose. Do they only generate when one
kills one's own Liberals or perhaps one's hostages?
4. I always found that healing liberals in the safehouse with no special room was a little unrealistic. If you removed a bullet from someone's body in just any old room, theres a very big chance that the wound would get infected, so I though of an option to buy a special room under the safehouse menu, but since safehouse upgrades can seem expensive at the beginning, where fighters are most likely to get hurt while trying skills, I think it should only make healing faster in that safehouse.
I like this. Not sure where it'd go in the safehouse-enhancement list, but having specialized facilities would be a fine way to differentiate safehouses and change up runs. (For example, the Printing Press, Dojo, Firing Range, and Infirmary might all go in the same space. One only gets three upgradeable safehouses, at most. Which would you want the least?)
5. I know Im not the first person to suggest this and I probably won't be the last, but I like the idea of gambling in LCS. I had two ideas for this though, two different ways to do it. One way being an active via the action menu, the other being a special location on the edge of town. I also think there should be a skill for it, as well as an option in the begining of the game to help get a skill boost at the start of the game.
OK, so the Liberals involved would be players rather than principals. Not something I'm personally interested in, but I've no objection. Now, running a gambling den (decreased Secrecy but generates income), I'd consider that an interesting option on par with #4.
6. One thing Ive been thinking, but seemed WAY to over-powered, are ways for you to train your special skills like strength, agility, etc. I can't remember all the special skills at the moment, so I can't really give ideas on what would make them improve, but Ill try to remember to get back to this.
Hmm. I thought of those as "stats". Heart, Strength, Intelligence, Wisdom, Agility, Health, & Charisma IIRC. I'd agree that being able to train them to any significant extent would be overpowered, since stats are about the only semi-permanent (visible) attribute a Liberal has. Being able to pump stats would mean that anyone could (eventually) do anything, and incidentally remove the major advantage of Mutants.
7. I think it would be a cool idea if female liberals could get pregnant during prostitution, and based on juice they weould either stay or leave the LCS. And if abortion laws are Liberal enough, they could get an abortion as well, but they have to have a certain amount of heart to actually go through with an abortion for the LCS. But, if they don't get an abortion, after 9 months where the liberal could do pretty much nothing but sit around, you would gain a 0 y/o liberal with no skills, and no actions until they get old enough to do stuff.
I'm not sure about this; perhaps STIs as a function of Seduction/Prostituting might be a better idea as anyone can get those.
At one level, yeah, pregnancy is a Real Thing and it's important to have those in-game. (See: Ambiguous at Founder-creation.)
At another level, pregnancy only affecting women provides an excellent opportunity to disadvantage Female Liberals, whether through avoiding letting them engage in sexual contact at all for fear of pregnancy (contraception goes for ~$1/condom, last time I checked), through not letting them check polls, hack, raid the CCS, or otherwise advance the cause during pregnancy, to the point of someone with way too much time on xyr hands going full
quiverfull and trying to run a breeding program.
At a third level, women exercising their
right to choose based solely on Abortion Rights seems kinda deterministic. (Women might opt to abort or not for any or no reason, and supporting that decision is how pro-choice works.) As for the Abortion Rights issue: the Seedy Back Alley(TM) and Abortion Clinic are CCS targets already. Probably will take some coding to make them medical locations similar to the clinic or hospital, but if this got implemented I'd want to be able to make use of both (and if a safehouse had an Infirmary, that ought to be an option. Figure First Aid 10-12 or so, though--abortions aren't trivial procedures.)
(I'm not sure what I think about leaving/not the LCS based on Juice. It seems overly simplistic, but I'm not sure how I'd fix it. Will think about it some more.)
Finally, I strongly recommend getting and following input from women on this issue. I'm a dude, so for me pregnancy, though important and worth paying attention, is nevertheless something that happens to someone else. It's bad luck, bad form, and just a bad idea generally to design a mechanic that can only happen to one sex without members of that sex being involved.
(If for some reason pregnancy must be implemented immediately, I think Dwarf Fortress got it right: at last check, pregnant female dwarves were in no way affected by the pregnancy and basically just spawned the kid. Pregnancy was thus value-neutral.)
8. Kind of similar to that, I think there should be a way to adopt animals, like dogs and cats, and if polution and nuclear laws are at C+ you should be able to adopt, expensive, genetic monsters. But I also think that at C+ animal rights, it should be a place where people go to torture and beat animals for fun, and you can rescue animals from there. I think to do that, it should be a map where you could buy into an area behind a locked door, where cages are, and free them from there. But after at least C laws, you should be able to go back there for free and choose what animals you want to adopt.
Raids would certainly be one way to affect C+ Animal Rights, I'd think. Adopting dogs/cats nowadays typically runs about $100-200 or so upfront, then the maintenance costs down the line. Since LCS dispenses with non-trauma medicine & basic daily needs, animal maintenance costs should likewise be ignored.
And it'd be nice to have cats at the safehouse. <purr>
9. Another cool thing I think that could be done, is that at C+ gun laws, you could be able to buy REALLY expensive tanks from the car dealership.
Uh...AA batteries are fixed and the M249 is a personal-scale non-explosive weapon. "Machine guns can be bought and sold freely" doesn't seem to include 120mm cannons. Sorry.
Thats all for now, Ill probably come back with more ideas as I think of them.
Looking forward to them.
