Through the HFS.  :P

I think you might have just won Dwarf Fortress.

Actually this is the problem now! There's almost no way to lose anymore so I need to rack my brain and come up with a good way for this fort to meet its epic end.
Dig deeper.

Indeed.

Keep piling on layers of obsidian. Also obsidianize the caverns.

More obsidian layers on top. All of them, in fact.

DO IT.

Then carve it out. Make a 3-long bridge against the edge of the land biome so when you do this, you can still get traders. But the bridge best be steel.

And now carve out your grand fortress from the ground up.

I see an artifact of irony.
Anyone else see the coffin made of bones?

Combine it with the obsidian bed!  :P

I personally love artifact furniture for how easy it is to make high quality rooms with it. That coffin is perfect for a grand royal mausoleum for example :)

And the useless adamantine ring? Hey if it attracts seiges it sounds good to me.

I also just got a Nether Cap door encircled with bands of adamantine. It sounds like it could be useful for magma tunnels, or playing with building destroyers, ... or both!

Meanwhile, after conquering earth, sea, and fire, it only leaves the sky!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I've got the initial overhead costs out of the way. In the center is an obsidian farm that produces about 400 stones (or 1600 blocks) per use. To the right is the beginnings of scaffolding for a 60x60 tower. Only 3 zlevels below is the obsidian factory; minecarts haulers and masons. Ironically I've found that 90% of the map is actually a GOOD biome. Pixies, hippos, and honey bees populate the new environment that I terraformed for them.

Anyway, I think I will build higher before I dig deeper.

You need a roof as high up as you can get it. And pillars holding it up in various points around the map.

The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.
