Both the tools and weapons are personnal. Think a really usefull shovel(which would be called, mining equipment) and a decent gun.
This shovel?

Truthfully, I'd rather we set up a waypoint by the gasgiant with harvestable fuel.

But the Desert moon is starting to sound like a better build so long we can get the water quick enough. And once we figure that out, start to slowly terraform the jungle environment, or build domes to filter out the toxins. Speaking of, why is the planet's atmosphere toxic?

Hmm.  We could make a stop at the jungle planet for some plants to help maintain oxygen levels, as well as improving the morale of the settlers.  We may also want to pick up some fertile soil to easily grow crops to maintain the colony's food levels.  When we reach the desert moon, we could perform a geological survey to determine the easiest access for water and set up the main colony there.  When we have the ability, we could set up a secondary mining colony a mile or so away from the main to have a stable foundation for the main colony, undisturbed by tunnels.  The secondary mining area would be set up within an area of high, and useful, ore concentration.

personal equipment:
I suggest something like this:

50 Mining tools
25 Stone\metalworking tools
25 Farming tools
50 Construction tools
30 Vehicle\spaceship repair tools
10 electronics repair tools
10 medical tools

Mining and Construction is good, but we should have more farming, and stone/metalworking tools.  It should be relatively simple to construct Vehicle repair tools with the stone/metalworking tools, and we need to produce food relatively quickly to feed 300 settlers past the 6-month supply.

This is what I am thinking:
50 Mining tools
10 Stone
20 Metalworking tools
40 Farming tools
50 Construction tools
2   Vehicle repair tools
8   Spaceship repair tools
10 electronics repair tools
10 medical tools

Turn One

Slowly your cargoship lowers itself down from the athmosphere, before softly touching  down in the sand. Your cheap radiosystem didn't betray you, as beneath the soft sand lies a hard and stable rock plateau, capable of supporting the ship. The Colony buildings are unloaded and set up a bit further, where they are sheltered from the harsh winds by the ridge. The Hydroponics plant and metal refinery are set up, and the solar power plant is brought online.

That's about all you do before the night's starts to fall and everyone retreats inside. Nobody is tired yet however, giving you plenty of time to distrbute the tasks for the next weeks.

I'd suggest sending the light tank, along with some soldiers (if we have any) to scout the area for interesting things, like local animals.

Some scouting is good. We need to find possible mining sites Launching Hydroponic farms is another option

My character

Maximilian Carter
Age : 27 years
Profession: Architect\Mason
Short Bio: Graduated architect, he chose a very strange specialization. Construction using ancient materials and techniques: Bricks, concrete, glass and stone blocks. As his services aren't needed in the world of metals, plastics and carbon nanotubes, he chose to join on of the newly founded colonies, knowing that new settlements use anything available for them

Aaron Chechkovis
Age 32 Years
Profession (xeno) biologist
short bio After graduating as a biologist, Aaron signed on for colonial use in identifying which animals would be suitable in which environments, essentially trying to predict how to avoid such pesky things as invasive specie introduction and balancing out human use with growth. Normally not that tough since most planets had a protocol. It was only when plans voided from  the protocol did his skills really come into play and his job come into effect.

Captain Dalton Carlik
Age:32
Profession:Soldier
Bio:Having obtained the rank of Captain in the Colonial Marines, his latest assignment is commanding the militia of this newly formed colony

As for action, i concur with above:

"Alpha Squad, take the APC for support and scout the perimeter!"

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Alexander Red
Age : 31 years
Profession: Miner/Nomad
Short Bio: He goes from place to place looking for work.  He came into some bad deals by accident, and had to flee.  This expedition is his chance for a new life.  If he is pushed to far, he will fight back against the authority.

Based on the fact that the surface appears to be breathable, the above character will do this after the search of the nearby area by the militia:

> Take some miners and the two light mining vehicles to do a mineral sample of the nearby area (1/2 mile radius).  Preferably while guarded by the APC.
> Report figures to Maximilian Carter to see what he can use.
> If there are only a few types ores, expand the search to 1 mile radius.  Preferably while guarded by the APC.
> Send figures back to the main base.
> Ask for more mining vehicles to be produced.
> Ask Maximilian Carter if he can design some quickly deployable outpost buildings for miners to live within while mining the area sampled above.

So are you going with the convoy I am setting up, or are you just going to remain around the main base?
