So, last time I played this I got bored once I went to all the different unique buildings and realized that all I was doing was collecting stuff with no goal. It's been a long time and I was wondering what the major updates have been and if there is an end game goal that is difficult or a story. And if not, when they might be implemented.

Also, why are some of the best games ever made always in ASCII?

Content creation is a major bottleneck for creativity. Any game where you can make things out of other things suffers from a combinatorial explosion of content that someone has to make sprites for, and any game with construction options requires somebody to create content for the resulting constructions. ASCII conveniently sidesteps all this - the most complex and varied things can be represented in a simple way, without taking anything away from immersion because the player already uses his imagination to see the world.

The practical upshot is that the game creator(s) can work exclusively on story, gameplay mechanics, depth, complexity, and scale, without being slowed down by (lack of) artists or having to shell out money for their work. Plus ASCII itself is cheap and flexible.

How do I make a quarterstaff? I had a character with a really awesome one back in 0.9 and I want a character with one in 0.A, but I have no clue how to make it.

NOTE: I have 6 fabrication and 5 bashing weapons.

Read fabrication books to learn the recipe, then find the wood and stuff you need.

There is no quarter staff recipe. The Chainsaw Latajang uses one and that's about it.

You sure? Because I've seen it craftable.

EDIT: Yup, it's (either a 2x4 or two heavy sticks) and two leather patches.
With some metal, forging equipment, and fabrication you can make an ironshod quarterstaff from it which is a god among bashing weapons.

Opening up the mod's json for both mods has a description field that says that it should be integrated into the game, and that they're only included for reverse-compatibility.  Neither mod seems to have any files other than the name/description file anymore, so I think that is indeed accurate, short of any bugs. 

Say, though, is there a reason why the description field of mods doesn't seem to actually be displayed in-game anymore?  I could have sworn that they used to be shown, though I could easily be misremembering.
