I too thought the NPC trying to eat a lighter was hilarious and ridiculous outside of drugs or absolute trapped desperation.
Until I typoed and tried to eat my pocket knife.
Now I'm just delighted that the AI in the game is advanced enough, apparently, to typo too.
I tried a prostitute character again. Woohoo, to see the depressant levels appear. Helps me understand why my previous characters were simply stopping breathing so often. Was SO NICE to get one through that addiction. And SO NICE that hallucinations were not part of her withdrawl. I've been playing a lot of hobos recently... I'm sick of seeing hallucinations.
A question about static spawning fungaloids and... everything else. Actually, about zombies too.
Do zombies wander? A LOT? Enough so if you clean the top half of a town, then spend a couple days starting to clear the bottom half, then wander to the side of the town and waste a couple more days trying to clear a fungaloid problem, then go back to the very top of your cleared portion and find numerous clothed zombies of all types wandering around up there? Yeah, I was destroying every dead corpse I made, even the animals, and that I've seen, reanimated corpses rise naked.
Even worse though.... for me 'clearing an area' is pretty motivating. But I'm at a total loss how to even -try- to clear a fungal area, even at its supposed fringes... There was nothing fungal on the minimap within about 20 squares of where I was seeing these fungaloids and fungal zombies.
I even approached from a totally different direction than my first attempt, circled around a really broad area that had no visible fungaloids (viewable area 70x30) and started heading south towards the problem area. Ran into a LOT of ants, that's alright because about 10 minimap squares away was a marked ant hill. But wow there were a LOT of ants. And even ant larvae, out wandering on the surface, and so very far from the nest...
Anyway, headed south with something of a zig-zag to the east and west to help make sure I didn't miss a nearby 'leading edge' of fungaloid spread, killing ants as needed and looking for fungaloids. Bingo, found some, headed more south to start the killing. After clearing a bit of space, spotted of all things a shopping cart in an isolated mine's parking lot, so spent a few game hours taking it apart and turning my shopping cart into a two-tile long one. Not sure how long that took, was game day when I started and still the same game day when I finished.
Then I really looked at my screen again.
There was a huge knot of fungaloids around a spider, with a bunch of ants nearby too, all to the north of me. They had fungal zombies, fungal boomers, even fungal insects (Did they convert some of the ants? That's cool) and the regular fungus types too. The fungal zombies bug me the most - where are those corpses coming from? I did NOT leave anything dead with a body intact behind me. I'm a good 20 squares from town.... Sure there's the mine here but really, no bodies in that direction - I checked.
But I was also trying really hard to be at the north edge of the invasion. And here, north of me, and as I moved back north clearing, FURTHER north of me for over 150 walking tiles, were more fungaloids, little clumps of them for the most part, one or two mature forms and 2-6 immature ones, as if a single or a couple spores or spore producers had suddenly appeared there and gone on their business. Then 30-50 walkable tiles to the next knot of another single or double adult form, and a little clump of immatures around.
So are there invisible spores too? Do these guys teleport too, and I've just never seen it happen? Is there somewhere I could go to stop their spontaneous generation, and then just work to kill all the breeders somehow?
