Furthermore, you can move furniture (provided you are strong enough) by accessing the building menu - it's
  • by default I believe - and choosing the "move furniture" option... I think that's [f]. While putting furniture in their way won't stop zombies for long, it can at least block the way of most animals, or prevent the zombies from seeing you in the first place.

Will items left on the ground disappear? I am not sure where I should put all this stuff after clearing out a sporting goods store. Just drop it on the ground in my "safe house".

And why are there zombies in the "safe house" basement?

I don't care cause I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me...

I turned myself into a monster, to fight against the monsters of the world.

I would suggest several piles.  One for the metric ton of meat chunks, another for water, another for tools, another for weapons, and another for misc items.
Just be sure that there is no chance of that stuff catching fire.  So you would probally want to distribute that stuff around.  So when you open up with your MILKOR MGL you don't blow up your only supply of food, water, and ammunition for miles around.

What use do smoke rounds and bombs have?

Well, they hide you. Can be useful to sneak in a particular shop for exemple.

Teargas is also quite useful against Triffids I've heard.

Speaking of stuff on the ground disappearing, meat and corpses lying around should really disappear. All those hordes of coyotes, wolves, cougars and bears would strip any accessible corpse to nothing in less than a night. Not to mention all the giant mutated spiders.

Rotten food should also be reduced to nothing after a week or two.

I drank some mutagens and ended up like this:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I was thrilled, until I realized I had become a catboy.

Nah. More like a very lean, fast ape-man. For catboy you need the tail ears whiskers, claws, and teeth.

I can see meat and corpses, but I'm not too sure about the zombie corpses. There might be something about the tainted flesh that they don't like that stops them from eating them.

You do certainly have a point about rotten meat there though.

I think zombies come back to life if you don't butcher them or destroy the corpses in the recent versions.

Yes they have a chance to come back after I think 6 hours. As for animals eating zombie meat they just would not because then we would not have a game if you took it to its logical conclusion. In other words if animals like zombie flesh then there would be no zombies because the animals would eat them. Its not like zombies attack animals.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

Not sure what you mean here? The focus of the game? Survival.
