hey teo.

Tip: Don't use shotguns, they make a lot of noise and draw more zombies than they kill.
Again, boomers/landmines make a lot of noise.

------

On the gun maintenance issue I think it would take a lot of work to implement, but it is a good idea-- but it's already kinda ingame as weapon jams. If you have an SMG I've noticed sometimes they jam, which is a nice addition-- some of the first weapons I've found were the TEC-9 and MAC-10, both of which are notorious for being inaccurate and failure-prone. On the upside they're only meant to put out massive amounts of automatic fire at close range. I had the trigger happy negative trait (trait? more like a positive perk :P )
and a hulk was coming for me. attempt burst fire-- Holy shit. I just fired a full clip, wasting the hulk and several zeds standing behind it.

Things like hunting rifles and shotguns are ridiculously easy to maintain-- as are most battle rifles such as the SA80 and M16. You can strip the SA80 down in under a minute, oil the parts, run a pull-through with a rag down the barrel and hey presto clean weapon.

As for dunking them in swamps or other harsh conditions again that would be very hard to implement I think-- and while a MAC-10 might not fire when dunked in sand an AK-47 sure as hell would. (not that I'd recommend firing anything with a blockage in the barrel unless you fancy losing a few hands.

Edit: Also it would be nice as hell to be able to make a home-made pipe-gun. A bit of pipe, duct tape, a few springs and scrap metal. could even add in a two-by-four. Not quite sure on the calibre but it would be a small one-- while the weapon itself would be pretty heavy-- and accuracy would be pretty terrible of course, not to mention the magazine capacity (i.e, it would have one-- at least, not something you could build in a few hours.) but still a good first strike or last resort weapon.

A nailgun SMG would be pretty easy though. Nailgun+Pipe+Duct tape with a hacksaw and screwdriver then maybe stick in an extra battery and modify the nailgun to remove any limiters or something. I don't know nailgun schematics, so this is just wild mass guessing.

Isn't the problem with trigger happy is that it can make you waste bullets/make more noise? Why be forced to burst fire when you can just choose to?

(Doesn't stop me form getting it every time :P)

Noise is made with every shot anyway, but you're spot on about wasting more bullets. first time I saw it it emptied the entire cllip. Then again, it doesn't work with semi-auto weapons or handguns (i,e rifles, pistols and shotguns-- although shotguns bring enough noise on their own lol).

TEC-9, emptying a full clip into a hulk when I only expected to fire a small burst and be turned into paste against a wall. Well worth it.
I'd be pretty pissed if I emptied 30 bullets into a single zed though.

You already can with three mechanics and some firearms skill.

Time to get cranking up that mechanics skill then lol. I've hardly ever put skill into mechanics-- usually I focus on construction.

What does everyone think about some cities being bombarded? Like random craters everywhere, with lots of scrap material and fewer zombies. It would at least make the primitive weapons more useful. Why make a pipe gun when you can walk into a gun store and get a pistol?

Just wanted to drop in and mention that unfortunately Esc no longer does its job in the latest windows build.

Now, I've been playing this game since the beginning of the old thread and it is quite frustrating, to say the least, to suddenly not be able to cancel in-game menus, actions and the like using the Esc command I have grown so very accustomed to. Spits out an unknown command error now, and as far as I can tell it is not bindable in options, though works in the main menu before the game.

I implore you kindly to return balance to the world oh kind and merciful devs...

It's being worked on, space works for most menus that esc doesn't/

Glad to hear it, I know to use space bar or enter for the same stuff, but you know how it is with roguelikes. Once we've gotten used to the controls and have our own way of doing things its a ritual, its a feeling of sweet familiarity, in a world that changes every time that constant is important.

Okay, getting much better luck now I turned static spawns back off-- you get an hour and a half to raid and loot. Found a bike in a city parking lot with busted controls, gonna have to head back there :)

How do you toggle static spawns? I thought it was under options 2, but I can't find it.
