I'll go ahead and crosspost this here for potential feedback from anybody who doesn't look at the Cata forums.

I said before over on the DF forums that the primary reason archery is currently overpowered is because it's so easy to train.

Well, I just realized there's one other reason.  There's no penalty for carrying around massive shitloads of arrows.  I can carry around 200 arrows and they take up almost no volume.  Plus, I'm presumably carrying them around in my backpack or whatever, yet the speed with which I can retrieve and fire them does not reflect that.  I can spam all 200 arrows without pause.  It really is a bit much.  I think if this weren't the case, archery could be made into a more situational approach to combat.

I propose two things.

1.  Raise the volume amounts for arrows.
2.  Also consider making quivers a part of archery.  You wear it on the torso and it causes some encumbrance.  Without it, you suffer a penalty to the reload speed of your bow.

These two changes would prevent me from carrying so much ammo, and force me to trade-off a bit of melee ability as well.  If I can only carry 50 arrows instead of 200, I'd be forced to be more selective in how I use them when I'm doing something like deep raiding a science lab.  Plus, the torso encumbrance from the quiver would cause a penalty to my effectiveness in melee, which balances against my ability to very quickly and quietly dispatch any especially dangerous foes at range.

I'd say no to raising volume. Properly stored arrows take up very little space.

Yeah... but they currently take up practically no space.  I need to do a bit more crafting to check, but I think it's currently 1 volume for 100 arrows.  So 90 arrows take up less space than a can of tuna?  I don't believe this.  I think 1 volume per 10 arrows would make a bit more sense both in terms of realism and game balance.

Fair enough. It's not like volume is at much of a premium.
For me it's always weight that screws me over. Probably because I never increase the strength of my characters, going instead for high-intelligence and crafting skills.

Space is important if you want to get to your arrows quickly - Friction becomes a problem when you've stuffed dozens into a single container. You want a little wiggle room for your arrows or you're going to be struggling to pull one out without dumping three or four more on the ground. This is especially true for broad head arrows, since the head can catch on the shaft, feathers, or other heads.

So I'd say a volume increase would be fair.

Maybe a craftable mechanical quiver (think the thing Hawkeye wears in the Avengers) which would increase the speed of drawing arrows even more?

Spring loaded quivers and holsters.  Hmm, sounds fun.

Apparently the current version is bugged, if the vehicle's starting tile is covered, then it counts all solar panels are covered, so roofs can get confusing.
Yeah, this problem should be fixed in the current dev version.

Just played with my best character ever! Ran around for a while because no water, finds manor with two katanas and several rooms of food. Keeps looking for more consumables, finds toxic waste dumps with military ids, then finds a bunker. Later finds a LMOE shelter and several crates stuffed with food. Not to mention a bunch of explosives.

Is it common to find sewer snakes in a hotel tower? I ran into a few on the second floor and I may have overreacted by firing a rocket at them.

And yes, I think it counts as sewers.

A word of warning to everyone - gas tanks explode.  I started driving northward, and when I turned it swung the ass-end of my WARBUS out and it struck a wall, causing a series of explosions on the gas tanks and setting fire to the building it hit.  Luckily, I was far enough in front that it didn't hit me.

Spoiler: Before (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: After (click to show/hide)
I'd managed to get some Hard Plating on the front and shift the old steel plating to become roof tiles.

I'm realizing more and more that the WARBUS is not designed to interact with towns and buildings.  There are several issues that make it simply impractical to drive into somewhere.
1: Zombies will bash the walls down, no matter how much you armor it, a zombie on the other side will relentlessly chip away at the HP pool - I personally think a regular green should be unable to inflict damage on an armored tile.
2: Vehicle in the way cannot be destroyed.  You can destroy the parts, but still collide with them, and it's difficult if not impossible to knock them to the side.
3: With the way vehicles "break" when they turn, you can easily smash something with your rear end when using a long vehicle.  This can result in awkward and sometimes lethal crashes.

On the other hand, the explosive quality of gas tanks provides unique options.
1: If there's no dynamite or grenades, would should be able to build a vehicle directly beside a military bunker consisting of only a gas tank, then destroy it and cause an explosion.
2: With a small engine (lawnmower?) and a compact frame, you could have an 'explosive bicycle' that you could turn on cruise control, aim into a horde, and jump off.  If you can shoot it, then it should make a huge explosion.
3: Anything that would damage a vehicle should work, including the 'spinning blade trap' which could add some explosives to your trap.
4: At sufficient speed and design, cruise missiles!

EDIT: Shamelessly savescumming this.

Oh wow, had no idea gas tanks could explode... that actually scares me. I should *probably* stop running over turrets with a motorcycle... I'm a bit shocked it hasn't happened to me yet, with the number of times I've been shot at on it.

The "/" inventory management screen is AMAZING. "Hmm, I need to sort my shelter after smashing everything inside of it. To the / screen!"

Also, the shelter is obscenely well stocked to get a person going at the start, even if nothing spawns in the basement.
