Alright, after reading through this thread and -finally- realizing the absolutely awesome potential cataclysm holds (It's basically my dream game) I've finally decided to roll my first "serious" Character. Knowing full well just how brutal Cataclysm is, I of course cheated heavily to give myself a slight head start. I upped all the points available at character creation and turned off skill rust. I present to You:

Stath Stoutheart-
Str  13
Dex 13
Intel 10
Perc 12

Completely unskilled, except for smacking a few Z's with a melee weapon.
Picked Scoundrel
Quick, Optimist, Light Eater, Tough, Packmule, Animal Empathy, Disease Resistant, Incospicious, Light Step, Heavy Sleeper, Glass Jaw, Lightweight, Addictive personality, Trigger happy, Truth teller and UGLEH.

Inventory:
Mac-10, no ammo, one flashlight, matchbook, picklock kit, pocket knife, sewing kit, marijuana x5, CBM Fusion Blaster Arm (Not installed), empty plastic bottle. I'm using a baseball bat as a weapon, and i'm wearing a tanktop, hoodie, cargo pants, belt rig, dust mask, fingerless gloves, and a pair of boots.

I've found an inoperable semi trailer on the outskirts of town, and  there's a truck trailer nearby at a maine entrance, however, the semi won't start. I've already made it my objective to get this semi up and running, but anyway. Wot do? I'm completely lost. Do I scavenge a few houses for water and then take off into the wilderness? I'm scared and lost. And also willing to savescum the shit out of this character, he's awesome. So, what are my immediate goals, and how should I do them?  I'm also an utter newbie to Cata.

E...F
0%

I guess it's empty. Anyway, I think I might be making some progress in the right direction. I've also picked up a Trench Coat and Hard Leg Guards, and am currently fighting alongside a Suicidal NPC and clearing at least this half of the town of Zombies, I've even taken down a Shrieker, a Cop, and a Grabber by making them crawl through cars and then clobbering 'em. I've only found about three drinks though :/ Still no backpack either. So far it looks like I'm going to be Scavving a few houses before perhaps hunkering down in the Semi for the night.

Well, 2 days after the destruction of the spire there are still fungaloids. Not losts of them, but they keep spawning (along with fungal zombies). Will I have to clear them out by myself? or will they just despawn eventually? I hope that if I don't kill them, at least they stop breeding.
I believe once the spire is gone, the regional population doesn't replenish.  So if you keep killing them, they'll come less and less frequent, until they stop.
As far as I know, the regional populations never replenish anyway. Killing fungal spires (and triffid hearts and ant queens) is supposed to mark the population as dying, which reduces the population by 20% and the radius by 10% every day at midnight. Until recently, this was bugged for fungal spires and triffid hearts, so it's possible that killing the spire didn't do anything at all.

You need gas and perhaps (not likely) a engine.

Just noticed that a fitted tank top gives -1 encumbrance.  Does that stack with the under armor thing?

Well fuck.  I spawned right next to a sporting goods store that was amazingly well-stocked.  The most perfect look imaginable for a fresh character.

Also right next to a fungal spire.  Was surrounded from the very beginning.  Looted the place and tried to make a run for it, because none of the fungals bothered me while I was in the building.  The only path that wasn't swarmed with fungus was deeper into the city.  So I ran.  Right into three shockers.

So sad.

Don't think so, actually.  There was a clear path from the shelter to the sporting goods store and then again further into the city.  So I hadn't gone near any fungals.  But everything outside of that path was swarming with them.

When in doubt..

DODGE AND RUN! D:

The best bonuses you can get at start are Quick/Fleet-footed. Optimist too if you want a boost to yer focus.

Just noticed that a fitted tank top gives -1 encumbrance.  Does that stack with the under armor thing?
>Is fitted.

Didn't notice that until I started taking care of my inventory--check for the (fitted) detail past the Encumberance. These things give -1 to Enc.

You can make things fit you with the Tailoring skill. Just need thread, and a nice kit/bone needle.

Apparently the current version is bugged, if the vehicle's starting tile is covered, then it counts all solar panels are covered, so roofs can get confusing.
It charges fine in sunny weather. I got it up to 17% charge on the last day of summer.

In other news, does anyone know how to drift on purpose?  I have some houses I'd like to get the nails from.  Between crafting batteries and coilguns, I think I'll be going through a lot of nails.

Suggestions?  Coil Rifle, and a rifle that fires 9mm without being a 1-load pip gun.  I was gifted about 750 9mm ammo from some turrets and want to properly use it!  Guess I'm looking for a decent submachine gun...
Sadly I don't think the cataclysm physics engine supports drifting. You can use the hand brake to skid, but you can't really control it. You can just craft a simple flamethrower and use it to burn down all the houses to solve your nail problem and weapon problem simultaneously.

And the best part is that I have pretty much 0 encumbrance on all of my body parts that matter. I never imagined that tailoring was this OP.
