Sounds good. Also, I think we need to stop Luther getting too big a head. Challenge him to an archery contest.
Agreed. Archery lacks the same glory as hacking it up in melee, but it's vital in actual combat.

Suggest to the Cook if he can't come up with a little bit more fancy name. Maybe something french, or maybe name it after himself/famous family member. People tend to enjoy things more if they don't know what's in it.
Or we could abbreviate it to Fim.

In that case, get our architect to design and redesign parts of our town to better combat disease. Better sewerage and drainage systems and good food stores with are impervious to vermin would be a good start.
Yup, just let him make generic improvements. Enforcing minimum street width and stuff like that should make our town much happier than the average medieval town.

Though I'm not sure if many would like this urban regeneration thingy.
I wouldn't mind. The fim is pushing it. Basically, anything a period crazy-but-clever noble could have done, I'm fine with.

And yeah, attract apothacaries and other notable folks if we can. Horse breeding, if we have time and stuff, but I wouldn't call it a priority.

Chilled icecream did exist, actually. It was however more of an Easter/arabian thing.

So did firearms and pyramids.

Let's nip this in the bud. We are on our last strike. No more on the subject.

Soo, any last minute plans for next month? I am curious how that wall and tower are coming along (it is possible I missed the building of both of those).

Let's not forget to invite all our friends personally to the fair, and give them a good feast. In particular, let's touch bases with Melvin again. Find out what he's been getting up to. Work on Derrick by introducing him to other nobles and playing up his role in riding to the Count's aid.

At the fair, let's work on convincing Arthur of the ability to draw even more foreign wealth to the county if he allowed us a charter to establish a league of merchants with privileged trade rights throughout the county, including elimination of most pass-through tariffs levied in other towns on goods bought at or intended for the fair. Local tariffs like this could be crippling during this era. If the Duke attends, hit him with the proposal as well, duchy-wide.

Especially since we just seem to be arguing about what arguments are valid for deciding that the fim is okay.

Foreign trade sounds interesting, but before we decide to get into it let's check on the international situation. Unless you're trying to get Arthur out of his position, of course. Then encourage him to trade with whomever.

Actually, we're going to create a merchant guild under a proxy, probably Irlof. When we started our focus on fairs, it was a given that we were inviting foreign trade already, but now we ought to control that trade better within our own borders. I doubt it raises concerns internationally until we begin establishing trading posts.

Year 6, May

Good job stopping that potential argument. Now, a bit of game mechanics here: the reason you didn't implement all the neat, modern ideas about sanitation and such is that your character would have no idea about them, and I rolled a 1 when you consulted your expert (the healer). I can't just let every bit of modern insight pop into your head from on high.

Ah, the Spring Fair! Many Feroshirians would say this is the best time of the year. Usually, they would be right. This year, however, is anything but joyous.

The month starts inauspiciously enough. Merchants began arriving in dribs and drabs, at a much slower pace than usual. You furrow your brow, but your attention is drawn elsewhere at the moment.

With rumors of illness spreading, you consult with the town healer, who tells you that there is naught much to be done for the plague besides letting of the foul blood. You nod your head grimly, and move your attention elsewhere.

The month is proving to be especially stormy, with construction slowing to a crawl on both the tower and the wall. Still, they are nearly done, and you can see the end just a few short months off. Still concerned about the talk of illness, which is growing more insistent, you order a few men to put together a small hunting lodge in the northern woods.

It is but a few days before the fair arrives, and word reaches you that a sickness is spreading among the people. Their eyes swell shut, then they are struck with a horrible fever, and constriction of the airway. Despite the enthusiastic letting of their befouled blood, a few children and older people have passed away already. You have to make a decision, now: what will you do? Shall the fair go on? Or will you cancel it and retreat to your cabin?

Short roleplaying, go!

We could have sent someone to find other healers in Torchester or whereever, since I'm pretty sure they'd at least bother with herbs that'd ease their pain (and we should consider easing their pain anyway), but bringing in new healers might be an insult to the one we have now. Can't cancel the fair, though.

My interpretation of the 1 was that not only was the advice bad, but you bought it completely.

So can't throw painkillers at them, either. I'd lock up the sick ones and continue the fair as usual, show must go on and all that. Keep the morale on a decently high ground.

Fuck. Okay, send out messages to all the important people in the land, tell them to stay away and ask them to send for anyone experienced in the treating of plagues. I wouldn't hide ourselves, but we should hide the wife and son in the house. Quarantine them. Even if we have to chain Marna to the wall to keep her inside.

+1.
Also impose a general quarantine, and attempt to determine how it is spread, whether by contact, water, air, or parasites.

they wont know about parasites, but we need to:

A) Get rid of all vermin
b) Get as many apothecaries and Physicians to our town as fast as possible.
c) Quarantine the people affected by the plague.
D) Keep Marna and the child in the manor house.
