Or, of course, if he wants to keep a good image and doesn't see them as a threat.

We should look over anyone he wants to save and advise him on his decision. Actually, we might want to do that for all the soldiers...

Brand him a treasonous murderer, exile him or imprison him.

We don't want to exile him, because if we do then we'll wind up with him coming back with both an army and a vengeance.  And if you think he won't remember that we are at the mercy of two things: Mal and the random number god (may we ever have high rolls), which practically guarantees that he'll be coming back.

Execution: his wife remarries, better-positioned than before
Exile: he returns
Imprisonment: he escapes and returns

Imprisonment seems to have the most intermediary steps toward the inevitability of his return. Brand and imprison, it is. What we really need is the girl. Have we detained her? Let's just lop off her head as a murderess. Problem solved on most levels.

I support this approach.  Now the question is whether or not to make it a public execution?

Still seems to be some discussion on specifics, so I'm holding off posting, as this decision may be pretty pivotal.

Yes. Hiding it would make it seem as if there is some reason for us to hide it. None at all. Let all know of the horror of her actions and learn from her treasonous ways. We have no need to hide. Public.

Sounds right. The girl was behind it all. Pushed her husband like a Lady MacBeth, even to the point of murdering her lord and father. This is common knowledge, and it is horrifying. Arthur should be advised accordingly.

This sounds good. That way we can kill both of them! That way, nobody comes back for revenge... unless... do they have a child?

I like how no one is suggesting actually investigating the old count's "murder" to see what really happened. :P Medieval "justice:" whatever suits the strongest man in the room.

KInda yes.

Besides, investigating the murder at this point is undermining our own position. It's the primary support for our little rebellion, so we need to avoid any doubt.

Oh, I'm not disagreeing with it, I just find it amusing that we're all such horrible people.

Good point, let's just kill 'em all.  Although if he has children we ought to kill him/her/them in a more quiet manner.  Or make them our wards and be really really nice to them.  But killing them is the safest option.

Erm... Heheh. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. I hope that their recent marriage has not produced children yet. Let's cross that rather dark bridge when we are forced to come to it.

Common knowledge was actually a standard of medieval proof, so from that point of view, these two really are guilty until they can prove themselves innocent.

Honestly, I'm for making our new young count make this decision. It should tell us something about the person we're putting in charge, and it also means we won't be blamed if he decides to go forwards with an execution.

But we can suggest such an action as proofing against any future revolt or assassination plots, ya dig?
