I think we should split half of our new recruits to archers, and the other half to newly forged metal weaponry. Maces perhaps, or billhooks. Let's also work on iron/copper tipped arrows and spears right away.
I too think we should have a gate and redouble the watch.
As for the count... Lets go about this legitimately. No assasination, no sudden declaration of war, We go through the duke and our fellow knights, and once we have enough allies to vouch for us we go to the king. (Assuming that the duke alone does not have the authority to have the count brought in.)
Now that the Cat is out of the bag, let's put that mine to use making weapons and armor.
Let's try to limit our military preparations a bit.
After all, the count can just say we're spreading lies and preparing to rebel. And he won't even have to look hard to find evidence to back that up.
Agreed.

A bit impatient to chat with the knights...

Aye, did our letter suggest they come to us or that we come to them?

The former I think.

That's probably for the best. There is much for us to do.
Oh, might we put together a gift for the Duke?
We should also assure all of our potential allies in this conflict that we have no design on the lands of the count.

What do you have in mind?

But not too obviously.

Perhaps some kind of silver decoration. Like a decorative sword or a brooch if the sword is too ambitious.

Treachery! Betraying a vassal lord is possibly the most heinous crime possible in feudal society! What kind of evidence do we have? The word of a criminal, and a bag of coins minted by the count, but not necessarily owned by him. Not very solid. Enough to raise suspicions among our fellow-vassals of the count, maybe, but I doubt its enough for the duke to depose him, unless maybe he wants to be rid of him, which is possible, knowing what we know about the count!

If we can get the duke to side with us, then we've already won. Maybe we should talk to Marna and her brother, they probably know the duke pretty well. See how they think we should approach this.

Also, we should have a bodyguard with us at all times. Especially when we sleep. Have our most loyal militia take it in shifts.

how about we get some of the gold from our mine and refine it into a styalised medium sized golden bar, along with something made of silver (i think our mine has silver in?).

Then give this 100% golden bar to the duke. he can then have it made into whatever he wants.

Given recent events, we might not want to publicize our new-found wealth that much.

Not very creative. I like the sword. Plus silver is originally what we had found in the mine.

I agree, we need a proper manor/citadel so start stockpiling stone and brick to get it built quickly. Double patrols and get more archers, and see if we can get more Rangers too, and start having the rangers patrolling the woods. Bodyguard is also a good idea. As well, only drink drinks and eat meals that have been brewed and cooked buy people we trust.

I also agree to a silver-inlaid sword be made a s a gift for the duke

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Just as a note, making a sword isn't easy, and if we don't have an experienced master doing it, it might be rather ruined.

I vote for a more simpler gift, because a simple timly gift is better than a crappy gift.

I just realised, maybe we could have our rangers try to track the horseman that fled. Also, he left behind a pair of horses no? Add those to our collection, also make note of the breed, perhaps they are linked to the count in some way.

Agreed.
Which is why we're going to share our suspicions with the Sirs before accusing him.

Would be useful.
Could be adviseable.

Good call on the horses and horseman, yeah try to see if the rangers can track him and check to see where those horses came from. Also, the Count is sure to have heard by now he failed, so we do need to be on guard
