Yeal, that was why I wanted a dwelling that could be upgraded. Though, we don't need to wait for stone now that we have bricks being made, so I suggest we start looking for an architect in the nearby town for all future projects. Also, we should report the great bounty of this strike to the Count(Yeah, I know, bastard Count WILL be sure to massively raise taxes on us at THIS news) so as to get permission for actual brick walls, since as pointed out this WILL attract raiders.

Regardless of finding an architect or not, we can at least get the prepwork started on our manor(ground clearing, site marking, etc.). We should locate it close to town, but on a hill overlooking both the town and the mines.

So, in order:
0)GET PERMISSION FOR STONE/BRICK WALLS. GET STARTED ON THOSE WHEN ARCHITECT ARRIVES
1)Since we ran out of time last month, thoroughly study the book of laws and get magistrate(s) appointed to get the judiciary started.
2)Find architect. Have him get started designing our manor according to specifications(and even if he can't make it this month get prepwork started before winter sets in)
3)Have charcoal huts built/coal imported(not particular which)
4)Also, either inquire about blacksmith experience among our residents, or if none have any get one hired from other towns(preferrably with as many apprentices as we can afford, we'll need a LOT of metalwork done!)
5)Have ore warehouses built at the mines out of the sturdiest brick we can make, and keep all the ores(especially the silver and gold!) under guard to prevent thefts by miners/raiders
6)As soon as we have enough ore/fuel, get that furnace going! Smelt metals in this order:gold, silver, iron(for PROPER weapons finally!), and then the copper for tools and the like(plus copper coins as well).
7)Speaking of coins, inquire(or read if it's in the book) about the laws concerning coinage, and either build a mint or send VERY heavily guarded carts of most of the gold, silver, and copper produced this month to the proper place for turning into coins; now that we have enough, it should be a simple matter to turn most trade in the village over from barter to coinage

....that's all I can think of. The only thing left to decide is: wood, stone, or brick Manor?

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

We need to put the word out for metalcrafters. Now that we have metal we need some men who can actually work with it. We also ought to step up patrols and include the area around the mine for those patrols. Read about the laws of the land so that we can start our judiciary system.

+1 to all of the above. Check first in the lawbook if we do need permission, and the procedures.

Making a manor + walls proper will take a decent number of bricks, time and money. Why don't we make the manor fortified, and allow the peasants in during emergency? It would be effectively a 'baby-castle', without the time, skill, monies and other stuff needed to create one, yet providing us with a decent shelter, increasing the defense capability of the town and allowing villagers to be saved in case of emergency.

IIRC castles doubling as shelters for villagers during raids or such was how it actually was supposed to work in the Middle Ages, but I'm no historian.

I don't think importing coal is the way to go, since:

a) it makes us expend the precious coins for something we can make on our own
b) it makes us dependent on merchants
c) charcoal is something we could actually export for sweet, sweet cash, and requires people to man the huts = work for villagers = moar villagers = growth = POWER! UNLIMITED... POWER!
d) we're not a major centre of industry, not like we will burn tons of the charcoal anyway, and for blacksmithing charcoal would probably be better (no natural impurities, unlike the sulphur-contaminated coal).
e) somehow, I doubt the medieval ecological awareness.

Still need to settle once and for all whether we'll have a brick, stone, or wood manor. (Naturally, since brick was my idea, I'm sticking with brick)

Also, while we're not a major center for industry, with THIS mine strike, I'm pretty damn sure we're about to be! Though I do agree on charcoal as the way to go for now. As for your suggestion, that was what I had in mind, a fortified manor for now until we have the resources for walls for our manor(village walls come first!)

my dutch blood would cry out for brick construction,

but considering we've got a mine that likely has plenty of stone as a side product and we're close to a forest, I think it would be more economical to use those materials

about ecological awareness, yeah I doubt they cared back then, but having a healthy forest is a resource and makes our town more joyfull to live in. I think we should strive to keep it a good place to live.

wolves and boars sure are pests when it come to livestock/crop destruction, but their pelts are valuable... And we have hunters that help regulate the population.  8)

I doubt we'd get permission for stone walls, as those are actually a city only thing. Because, with our small population, building stone walls is actually similair to building our private fortress, and shows distrust in our liegelords (Not that we have any reason to trust him, but anyway...)
