I'm fore the stone manor myself, we can always upgrade a stone manor into a keep/castle, but it's kinda card to do that to a wooden manor. If you want that cedar smell, though, we can always use think cedar timbers for roof beams

EDIT: WAIT WAIT WAIT. We've been debating wood versus stone, with the main thing against stone being the unavailability of it, but we've overlooked a resource we have plenty of(and are already making use of!); Clay! That's right, why not make clay bricks/blocks, and have our manor AND walls made from strong clay brick? It shouldn't be hard to upgrade the pottery guild to a full on clayworks

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Damnit. 'M retarded. Let's do this, and by this I mean build a straight up clay works. Hells to the yeah.

In my mind heres our list of things in order of importance: this months things, getting money, mine, clay works, furnace/blacksmith (improving to the point of having molds possibly), building a full on sailing vessel, improving our home, Stone/brick palisade, towers.

Might have to wait on the walls and towers for a good steady supply of quality brick. I'm not sure our current potters have too much experience with making good brick...

But yeah, that's a good order, though I'd switch the mine/clay works priorities

We will depending on how quickly that money shows up. We can switch up brick for stone and vice versa if we run out of the other. We should stay consistent on constructs though. (no half stone half brick towers, mortering our stone is a good idea too.)

We shouldn't be afraid to take our time either though, if we need to have our men practice with making building materials and such then that's what we need. We should aim for top notch quality if we're building a new home.

Also true. Can you think of any rather unimportant building we can build for our brickmasons to get experience making brick and building things out of brick?

A proper courthouse? Maybe something for the market?

...Oh I know! Brick-paved roads! We can get practice in making brick, bricklayers can get practice in laying brick, and if we mess up, easy enough to tear it up and redo it right.

That's a pretty good idea there.

We can start with and around the market area, the most frequented part of the town, and then we can start planning actual streets and roads and turn this from a small village into an actual town. After the brickmasons get good enough, we can go ahead and replace the wooden palisade with actual brick walls

I approve of this. When we're done with harvest and such (or during if we can) we'll have to get the workshops up and upgraded.
Post Note: Hrmm, this will cost money won't it?

Alright, in interest of making the GM's job easier, here's what we have so far;

Getting the harvest in and getting money+paying taxes, then getting the mine going, then getting the potter's guild upgraded to a full clayworks for mass brick production. Next, get a furnace set up for all the ore that should come in from the mine, finishing up the shipyard and getting started on a basic sailing vessel capable of navigating the river(something like a felluca), and seeing what we can do to spruce up our current home until the brickmakers and brickmasons get good enough to build a manor out of brick(might need to wait a few months for this). Also, once the clayworks is up and running, have the brickmakers and brickmasons practice their trade by paving the market area in sturdy clay bruck, and start paving the streets around the market after that's finished. Also, as a side project during harvest, see if we can get started on winemaking by fashioning a few casks and experimenting with a couple fermenting processes(and having our resident brewer assist), while also planting some of the grape seeds to get more grapevines. Did I miss anything?

Edit: You mean the brickworks? Not really, as we can make EVERYTHING out of brick, and the potters already have the ability of making small amounts of brick(they made their ovens out of vrick after all). If there is a cost, I'm betting it'll be small enough to allow us to get both the mine AND the brickworks going

Don't we need an authorization for that?  :-\

Anyway, I agree with what has been said. Securing the harvest, paying the taxes, buying some picks/mine equipment with the leftovers, various buildings suggested. And our personnal time studying law and enforcing it (without unnecessary harshness. Our people seems pretty respectful of the law already).
For our house, I am all for the stone&wood manor.  :D
EDIT due to ninjas: YAY workshops!

Also, I have been thinking: this winter (starting around the lines of mid november), we start writing to Lady Marna (hopefully that's something that's possible... Idea: get pigeons. Or any letter-carrying bird in use in that country.).
First thing: "The winter seems darker and colder now that I miss you." Or something along these lines. Plus politeness and courtesy.
Second: We plan on visiting the Duke (he has land neigbouring ours) in the spring (around march?)
Third: Once there, politeness, courtesy, yadda yadda. We ask daddy the permission to court his daughter. Have Bro backing us up if possible (he was the one to suggest this).
Fourth: proceed to full chivalrous courting.
Five: get married. (hopefully)

Might wanna wait until those months to suggest that, but I generally agree on that timeline
