I was tempted to suggest "jump and down, shouting loudly", but I've never played this sort of game before.  Wanna see what happens.

Hide behind the closest tree.

(Its kind of an interactive intro, a bit later in the plot there will be much less railroading. I have a bunch of very interesting things to happen.)

The humming gets even louder but it seems to die out for a moment.

You hide behind a tree. You lean out to see it better. The orb's whining sound pitches down and fades out, just as its about to hit the ground, three legs pop out of it and catches its fall.
From the front where its eye-shaped spotlight is located, two metallic arms extend, each with 3 claw grapples. It looks around the area, its eye giving off a low hum as the light cone moves around. You just managed to duck back in cover as it looks over in your direction. You feel like your going to panic, but you can control it, for now.

You hold entirely still. You hear it walking around the area, shuffling around in the leaves and soil.
Suddenly you hear another whine from the distance, a light darts up over the trees a bit away. Its approaching your area.
You keep still. The whining comes closer, it seems to have noticed you, with its arms out it darts after you when suddenly its hit by a rock.
The blow was just enough to destabilise it, it tumbles around and slams into a tree with a huge crunch and a metallic crash. Pieces of the orb lies scattered around, the shell itself cracked open like an egg. Inside you can see metallic tentacles writhe around, oil spilling out and arcs of electricity jumping around. The foilage around the orb catches on fire. The first orb runs to the other orb, not even noticing you. It drags the orb away from the fire with its frontal grapples. You hear a high snapping sound, a bullet pierces the orb and oil spills out. It freezes and drops to the floor. Nearby you see a tall old man wielding a hunting rifle. By his side is a shorter, younger and fatter man, with a flashlight and what looks like a small handgun. You sigh in relief.

You approach the two people carefully, they seem friendly. "Those motherfuckers aint got shit to do here. I just blast em when they come, why are you out here? Another of them pesky ufo believers?"
