For roll20 you can use voice video what ever to speak to fellow players :) but in game things will only be text ( although out of character can still be typed ) voice and video will be only out of character.

Also I don't mind investigators using explosives to deal with a situation I mean it is your story, I just don't want it to be a 5 minute story and a cheep ending because you blew up the house win all the goodies and fun stuff in it :p.

Thankfully, like Neonivek said, that situation is easily discouraged. You can't just go around blowing up houses. Blowing up things in underground caves that aren't even supposed to exist is okay.

If you want to die in a cave-in that is  :P

Anyway how good grasp I should have on the rules? I have never actually played the game before, but am definitely interested.

Of course a good GM will make it perfectly possible for you to blow up the cave and survive. But that means you have to sneak or shoot your way into the cave, cover it with remote detonated explosive, or explosives on a timer, and THEN make it out again.

Because just caving in the entrance ain't gonna stop your average lovecraftian monster, it just gives the cultists who worship that monster a nice fresh human sacrifice. All they need to do is dig it out, or wait for it claws it's way out. And, of course, catch you.

Hmm, from that perspective "You sealed away a monster, now time to deal with the consequences" could make a good start of a campaign.

I think the difference between appropriate and inappropriate ultraviolence is in the when and the way.  Did you see a mysterious house and blow it up because you know you're playing Call of Cthulhu and you're assuming something bad's in it?  Inappropriate.  Did you do it because lolmycharacterisinsane?  Inappropriate.  Did you do it after learning the nature of the threat?  Possibly appropriate.

Basically, if it's in character and not in stupid character, I'm fine with it, just be prepared for the consequences.

No, it really will.

Mind you there are quite a few of them that really can and some of them would just outright laugh at you if you tried it.

But don't underestimate how tough it is to get past metric tons of rock and dirt. Heck some people even theorised that a zombie couldn't escape its own grave.

Mind you I'd love to see them cave in a Cthonian. I'd have no choice but to laugh at how they doomed themselves.

Well maybe one of the unknown ones, but the ones that have people holding mass orgies in their names aren't gonna be imprisoned for long. Oh look someone purchased that land and oh my, is that a construction crew? Building a hotel with a wine cellar directly on top of the cave system? And the players have been invited to it's grand opening?

Really you could easily have a whole campaign around the consequences of merely imprisoning a being...plus it does skirt around that "Pfft monsters don't exist" metagaming players need to do.

I always wanted to play a CoC game but my lack of experience in RP games (not to mention my accent, heh) may ruin it for the other players. Is it okay for you guys if I quietly watch the game, if that website allows it somehow?

I imagine you'll be able to communicate via text if you feel your accent will be a problem :)

Actually that would be a GREAT follow up session. Just make it so the people buying the house arn't evil mythos people and BOOM! you actually have intrigue.

No honestly you stumbled into a genius level plot idea.

Step 1: The players collapse a cave onto a herd of monsters
Step 2: intermediary sessions
Step 3: Someone buys the barren cheap land and builds a mansion ontop with an extensive cellar system.

He didn't stumble onto anything; that's almost exactly what he suggested.
