Not sure on which art is the best, but to me, the worst is most modern art.

'This is a urinal. It represents how humanity is... based around men?'
by the way, this is the kind of things casual gamers say about dwarf fortress. also, guess what was acquired by the museum of modern art a few weeks ago
A lot more people say it about modern art, though.

Of course, the smallest part of art today is the stuff that people complain about. It just gets a lot of coverage because it's either deliberately abstruse or it sacrifices aesthetics for a message. Or because it's created specifically to rile people up.

Here's some more traditional modern artists.

I love concept art. It's very interesting to see how characters and locations were designed.

Some of my favourites (beware of size)
I apologize in advance for dumping a lot of stuff of questionable quality into a fine art thread.

Delicious concept art. Things have to look awesome and functional at the same time.

Spoiler: Eric Powell (click to show/hide)

Definitely one of my favourite artists. :) His paintings and his ink drawings are all just so beautiful-- and his writing is excellent to match!

Some of the art in this thread is great.

Who is this by? Beksinski? That image is amazing. :o

Art is an incredibly subjective field, and cannot be graded on objective terms such as "best."

That being said, Bay 12 seems to have picked out a wonderful selection of art. I personally love Salvador Dali.

I hate it. Reminds me of primary school, because they hung up a few of his paintings up all over the place.

I named it like that for my own personal lols 'cause I wanted to see it next to the "which martial art is best" thread and because I'm just generally not funny.

In all seriousness, I know my taste in art is a little "strange", but I can't help myself.  I like the stuff I like because it evokes strange emotions in me.  I especially like Beksinski because of the scale of some of his paintings.  I've always been fascinated by absurdly vast or immense things, especially when there's a sense of the unreal or the fantastic.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
His work reminds me of Giger's more than a little.

Edit: I've always been fond of Lowry. Quite like a lot of Moebius' work too.
