You can rapid fire them. A plasma rifle holds about ten shots before it needs to be reloaded, but you can fire those shots as fast as you want.....it just means that the whole thing will explode.

Emperor forbid the Orks ever get them. They'll just believe they have unlimited ammo and don't explode.

One more thing: I haven't come across any canon of fluff about this, but do plasma guns make a lot of noise? Remember that one of da most important things to an Ork is if his shoota or buggy makes enough noise!

Well, going by 2nd edition WH40k lore, plasma guns had dakka. Well, they could, but they were far too unstable and likely to blow up, so the Imperium made sure their rate of fire was low enough that they couldn't.

Chaos Space Marines on the other-hand, thought "Why not? More Dakka! As if we'd tone down one of the best damn guns we have.....". And therefore, CSM plasma guns, even plasma pistols, have 1 sustained fire dice on all their attacks. If it jams, it explodes a little bit. On a friggen Space Marine, so who cares?

I can really see the reason why the CSMs left the Imperium. Plasma pistol equipped Veterans used to be so fun.

Then 3rd, 4th, 5th, and any other thing in WH40k happened. Abbadon cried just the same as we did.
