It is if you know the right words, know how to use them, and the luck and stats to do it properly. And knowing who and who not to pick a fight with, although if you lack said knowledge it could lead to surprises and fun times.

Okay. I read up to the first page of the NEW WORLD ORDER after Null bit the dust, and said "fuck it."

Jumping in this thing with pretty much no knowledge of what's situationally going on, maybe a couple of the popular words but that's mostly it. (And by that I mean stuff like Zentol and Garstopit, not, y'know, actually situationally useful stuff. Prepare for science!)

Also your better off not taking any twos in your starting stats, aside from channeling of course.

Awareness is seldom used, move one point from that to potency to avoid dieing every second turn.

Yeah, with the -1 to potency you have a 33%  chance of hurting yourself every time you cast a spell.  As Miauw said, awareness isn't useful for the majority of things.  I don't think I've rolled it once, and I've been in the game since awareness became a stat.

And it seems you think Zentol still means "open rift to lovecraft".  It still does that, but it'll rip your body apart and replace limbs instead.  Or kill enemies without giving you a soul.  And if you overuse it, you die with no respawn.  So it's an emergency "sell-your-soul" word now.

...Know what?  I'll even give you a freebie spell.  "Shaazeshelial Zzers Harialltontal" will give you a +1 bonus to strength and speed rolls.

Since Piecewise bas been updating irregularly, I'll save you some time.  He'd just describe the first room to you, then let you choose what to do.

Instead I'll give you a description of the temple so you can have a full turn.

Most of the temple has an anti-magic thing on it.  You need to exit before drawing runes/saying words.

The room you spawn in has a big magic circle on the ground and eight inanimate mummies kneeling around it.  Only one exit, which leads into a hall with eight doors and a staircase.  The doors open into various god shrines, so you can devote yourself to them and get bonuses.

If you go up the stairway, there's lots of mummies, and one talking mummy you can ask stuff.  It's basically the backstory/knowledge dispenser.

Down the stairway has a lobby with fancy carved pillars of various humanoids, and an exit out of the temple where you can cast magic.  There's also a room with candles lit for every dead player, and a reading room that had all the useful scrolls stolen from it.

At the very bottom of the stairway is the basement, where you can grab very basic supplies and fight monsters.  You can also cast magic here, too.

You can devote yourself to one of eight gods to gain unique powers.  Although, If you stay an agnostic you'll have a better chance to gain souls from random mobs.


Yo-drell of the Deep- Survival centered god.  Abilities center around being impossible to hurt.

Sha-calun the Everflame- ALL BURN!  Centered around FIRE and excessively powerfull and uncontrollable spells.

Flux- God of change and agility.  Seems to be centered around being flexible in purpose, and in body. 

Parathun the Fleshsmith- Mutate and Evolve.  Mutates you, positively, I think.

Scarlon the Mask- Mind Control-  Centers around knowledge and Controlling things

Blastel- God of fighters- Kill enourmous stone boars with only a stick!

Nul-sheal the Green- Control elements- Gain complete control over a random element.

Shub-shalsheil of the Inksea- Rune god-  Draw better runes better.

Name: Yo-drell of the Deep
Description: Yo-drell is god of stone, endurance and survival. His favor grants the  protection of the stone and makes the acolyte harder to kill.
 
Second Altar: A Bowl with an eternal flame burning just above it.
Name: Sha-calun the Everflame
Description: Sha-calun is god of Potency and fire. He grants his worshipers magical strength and power over flame.
 
Third Altar: A font of Mercury.
Name: Flux
Description: Flux is god of movement and change. She grants her worshipers boons  which enable unparallelled movement and transmutation skills.
 
Fourth Altar: A constantly changing lump of flesh.
Name: Parathun the Fleshsmith
Description: Parathun is god of flesh, bone, and blood.  He grants no boons, rather his acolytes mutate as they spill blood in his name.
 
Left Side:
 
First Altar: A stone statue of a cloaked man in, wearing a bright white mask.
Name: Scarlon the Mask
Description: Scarlon is the god of the will, of the mind and of knowledge. He  grants his worshipers the powers of trickery, subtle control and secret  knowledge.
 
Second Altar: A live woman chained to the platform, a blade driven into her chest. She is still alive, still bleeding, and her blood forms strange sigil as it rolls down the sides of the platform.
Name: Blastel
Description: Blastel is god of Violence and battle, patron of the warrior. He grants  his worshipers new abilities to aid them in spilling blood and surviving  wars.
 
Third Altar: The tree with leaves of every element.
Name: Nul-sheal the Green
Description: Nul-sheal is god of the Natural world, of all pure elements. Her  worshipers are granted unparallelled power over a single form of matter. 
 
Fourth Altar: An enormous book, it's pages filling with text and magical symbols as you watch.
Name: Shub-shalsheil of the Inksea
Description: Shub-Shalsheil is god of scribes and writing. His followers are  inhumanly skilled at the use of magical tattoos, runes and circles.

Just make a covenant at their shrine. I've learned what happens if you try to go from one deity to another though, wouldn't recommend it unless you really want the other deity.

The chick is a part of the alter, not sure if she can be helped. You could try though.

I've been meaning to ask the monk something, but didn't ask before I signed on with Shubby. "Are there more gods than the eight to which there are shrines in this temple, and besides the Other who's avatar we seek to destroy? How might we reach them and devote ourselves to their cause?"
If someone who hasn't signed up for a god yet wants to ask this for me, or for themselves, then someone can try doing that.
I'm sure it would have to do with the altar word/rune; If the monk says anything about other gods, that's another multi-person rune project to work on.
