Tirion's Personal Log

Entry 17

Civilian traumatized by massacre of elves, went mad, died of thirst, left behind baby, chances of survival low. Should investigate, make sure doesn't repeat.
Elf massacre otherwise without casualties, but inefficient. Widespread complaints among melee troops about inadequate weapons. Should import better metals for edged weapons, restrict copper and silver to maces, hammers. At least no such problem with ammunition.

Population increase causing problems with housing, Pan fortunately quick to react. New quarters above and around Hall of Speakers potentially luxorious, should increase morale. Fortress overall progressing well, security weak points mostly amended.

Entry 18

Was struck by inspiration last night. Expertise in mechanics sufficient for it, raw materials readily at hand... yes, that should show them.

Entry 19

Work on Clovennamed finished at last. Population sufficiently impressed. Should use it for something important, where many can see it, choice of material good for value, boosting morale. Maybe an entrance bridge, control lever in Hall of Speakers.

Entry 20

Letter from Mountainhomes found among elven merchant corpses. Contents unknown to population, but seal recognized, speculations already wild. Actual content also worrying, crown sending in troops can be... problematic. Should increase priority of fortifications, traps. Fighting open battle against royal legions hopeless, but fortress is well-equipped to withstand siege.

Entry 21

Mountainhome troops arrived. Only 4 strong, ill-equipped, inferior to Blackdiamonds. Migrants and human caravan arrived at same time. Between caravan guards and loyalist troops, massacre of merchants would be unwise.

You see, this is my problem. Either no time, or too much time. Anyway this should go on the front page in case someone wants to skip the Bioshock references and the edge-of-the-map discussions. AW, darn it, you should have reserved a post. This might just take it over the limit.

I am not familiar with forum protocol, but I would suggest a new thread where the only posts allowed are the story related posts. And then we play and stuff over here.

If that is confusing; basically we would do the exact same thing we have been doing. With a separate thread where all in character posts are in one place. for ease of getting up to date.

That would be my suggestion.

That's a good idea, really, but is it allowed?

Pan: Outstanding work, both on the update and the compilation - Hammerscar has a lot of text to its name by now! How far are you into the year? I'm pretty sure you didn't leave anyone out, and if you did, too bad - with this amount of names characters, it's getting convoluted enough as it is.

To my rambunctious brother,

Father sent word that you are in-training to become a fortress guard. I congratulate you on following in our father's footsteps, but I would also caution you. Soldiering is not for the feint of heart. On to current events in the place that is called Hammerscar. Recently, posters and signs have appeared all over this place. All of them are propaganda for the crossbow squad that controls everything in Hammerscar. The  Blackdiamonds- as they are called- are the ones responsible for the deaths of the Human traders. They believe that they were justified in killing them merely because they were not dwarves. I ask: if it were humans killing dwarves, would our king respond with such tolerance as the Human's king has? No, he would not.

I mentioned a vampire in my previous letter to our cousin. He asked me to release him in exchange for immunity. Recently, I saw Pan- the puppet overseer- going into the room that the vampire is held in. I overheard some of their conversation. I believe Pan intends to release it. I do not know how to proceed.

I was somehow promoted to spokesdwarf of the miners guild in Hammerscar. This means I must do my normal duties as miner, and in addition do a carpload of paperwork. I hate paperwork. This was not what I hoped for when I set out for Hammerscar. My dream was to mine the beautiful stone and engrave true art into the walls. Paperwork is for the elves. Stone is my passion; though masonry has never interested me.

I hope you do well if you choose to continue as a fortress guard. Give father my well wishes.

                                                                                                                                                                Your Brother,
                                                                                                                                                                                  Artimaus

Journal of Oddmask: Date unknown

Pan came today. Had a nice chat with him! And he even wants my help. Fantastic. I'm getting tired of staying in this cage and occasionally drinking the blood of captured rats. I am thankful to Armok for letting the rats come into my cage. Without it, the pain would be unbearable. As for Pan, he wants me to kill some people I think. Can't remember.. hard to think straight. Might be the mask? But i'm stuck in here until further notice.

Of course I have a plan of my own. Maybe one of the three fighting wants an edge. A way to take over everything? I am the solution. I may bring it up with Pan, Grimnir or Brewster if they visit me to take me to the water supply one quiet night and have them spill my blood into the water. Everyone would get my curse. A fortress that does not need to breath, sleep, eat or drink (other than blood, but even then they can live without it.) might appeal to them. Not to mention the super speed, strength and toughness that vampirism gets. With all those boons they just might agree. Afterall, a fortress that has less need for food and drink and does not need rest could work forever, and entirely dedicate themselves to war and mining. Or something. Maybe they could all make glass?

Of course, its apart of another plan to get the fortress entirely decimated. Hammerscar is a hellhole and should not be run by fool after fool. Having a vampire fortress might be the spark that ignites the attack that wipes everyone out, while taking a large number of casualties due to the vampire "curse" given to them. But then again, everyone becomes superdwarven so it might just live forever, literally. If no one agrees to the plan but Pan lets me out, I will secretly work to have my blood taint their water. If it kills me, thats always nice too.

Oh, and Pan, I thought you said there were only three markdwarves.
I like how Shinn was portrayed.

Yeah, I turned up another one  ;) And please, do a journal entry or PM me or whatever so I can get a better idea how to portray your character.

Also, just realized also that Gavakis' mom is dead according to his character profile. So that plot's a no-go. Gavakis, cook something up.

Damn it! I forgot to address that! I knew I overlooked something... That's gonna bite me in the ass. Looks like I might have to arrange an accident...

And no paperwork for you, just that you will attend meetings since the other miners are NPCs :) Also, would you like a profile of his relations? Some of them might even be in the fortress.

Stay safe :)

If no one agrees to the plan but Pan lets me out, I will secretly work to have my blood taint their water. If it kills me, thats always nice too.

 >:(

Can't trust anyone around here these days, have to do everything myself, don't we. It's okay, I came prepared. Funny world we live in.

Now, what must be done with the human traders? Hurry up with the food and work already, AW and Brewster.

And honestly... silver battleaxes? Who's idea was this? Oh well, regardless, I'm going to have to chalk this up to my scapegoat Brewster again  :D

Pan and Grimnir pull some elaborate plot to TRADE with the human traders, and they are not killed. That's a suggestion, at any rate. This will of course have consequences for everyone involved.

Also, Pan will have his skull beaten in by Grimnir if he chooses to release a bloody vampire and ally himself with it.

Yeah, I turned up another one  ;) And please, do a journal entry or PM me or whatever so I can get a better idea how to portray your character.
Edit: I'll try my best at writing an entry, But I still want the names of the members of the Brigade.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The morning's air was fresh, and cold; After weeks of traveling, they had arrived at their destination. Hammerscar, Does our doom lie within? Shinn wondered. He had heard the rumours of them slaughtering the Human, and Elven traders. If they were willing to murder the Humans then, they were probably willing to murder them now; Which is exactly why he suggested to the humans, that the Brigade should be the first to enter the fortress. The Humans refused to believe that the Dwarves would do that, but nonetheless they agreed.

While the Humans didn't protest, some the Brigade did. "Listen, Captain, We lost 6 good Dwarves getting here." ___ (OOC: Seriously I need those names.) said. 'Those "rebels" are probably going to shoot us on sight. Why can't we just remove our gear, and try to blend in with those migrants?'"

'Those migrants aren't exactly here, because they love the Crown. Besides, we only lost 5 good Dwarves; The sixth abandoned us, like the coward he is'

The small Brigade slowly made their way to the fortress's walls. They moved in sparse formation; Shinn was in the middle, holding the standard, The other three was in a circle around him. The reasoning behind this, was so the rebels couldn't take them with one volley.

Though if the rebel's marksdwarves were proficient, this wouldn't pose a problem for them...

When they were about 20 meters from the fortress's gate, Shinn noticed someone in the fortifications, and hailed him...

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
In case I totally messed up, and didn't show Shinn's personality at all; Just tell me, and I'll pm you his personality.
Edit: Shinn is respectful of his superiors, and of those that prove themselves to him. He is usually silent, and always pays attention to everything around him. He believes that everyone contribute to the cause, and he favors the quote, "Paranoid people may not live life to the fullest, but they often live the longest."

Also, Pan will have his skull beaten in by Grimnir if he chooses to release a bloody vampire and ally himself with it.

This is why we're on different factions.  ;) Anyway Pan's not going to let his little alliance with the vampire be known, although Artimaus' snooping around could pose problematic.

Pan doesn't know Artimaus knows, so Artimaus has got the jump on him in regards to what he wants to do with his secret. Then again, Artimaus has no real proof till Pan actually releases the vampire, so he might be better reserved for if the vampire was to actually be released before revealing Pan's treacherous alliance. Or he could speak up now and raise the guard around the reducing the chance of Pan being able to communicate with and releasing the vampire. Or he could confront and/or blackmail Pan.

Shali8 if you're doing anything drastic with Artimaus, don't hesitate to move to PM for further discussion.

How far are you into the year?

Late Galena is when the reinforcements came. The discovery of the letter was in late Malachite.

And Skyfire, I'll send you the personality asap.

It would be pretty funny if: after this whole political power struggle, the fort dies by goblins or flood. Anything, menial like that.
