I wonder how Japan would feel about that one...
We're country bros, so perhaps they'd get a little starry-eyed.
Yeah, but, you know. It's also reminiscent of their fascist dictatorship flag.

It's also extremely difficult to make thirteen "stripes" in a circular pattern with only two colours.

And by extremely difficult I mean impossible.

Obviously we just need to recognize some lost colonies. Like Atlantis.

Seriously, build an artificial island in the Atlantic, name it Atlantis, boom, state #52.

Bullseye circle! Problem solved.

I'm down with the original. After all, who cares about those 38 latecomer states anyways? :P

Alternately, we could do some merging based on population density -- combine Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Montana into Rocky Mountania.

Combine New Hampshire and Vermont into New Vermshire (they'd even have a nice squarish state border)

Combine everything from Minnesota south to Oklahoma into Flyoveria.

Combine the West coast states into Pacifica (not a new idea, btw).

And Rhode Island, somehow, still gets away with being it's own state.

I think it'd be neat if anti-American protesters start shooting the flag with flaming arrows rather than just lighting it on fire.

Quote from: Act of Admission of Texas into the Union
New States of convenient size not exceeding four in number, in addition to said State of Texas and having sufficient population, may, hereafter by the consent of said State, be formed out of the territory thereof, which shall be entitled to admission under the provisions of the Federal Constitution.

If we really need an even number of states, split up Texas into Texas, Jefferson, Lincoln, Houston and Austin. That brings us up to 56 states.

Oh yeah. Totally roll those guys (and Connecticut) into Greater New England.

FWIW, there are also simmering statehood movements in New York City (i.e. as a seperate state from New York), and Washington D.C. (since they have one Congressional representative who basically has observer status in the Congress, but they still pay full taxes).

I think they're making a big mistake. I know they're poor and all, but I'd never choose to join an "unbreakable union of unbreakable states".

Considering that they're effectively part of the States anyway, sans the right to vote and stuff...

They aren't doing it because they're poor (and they are only poor relative to the rest of the US, which is rich). Hell, they'll have to pay federal taxes now.

The Union isn't unbreakable, there's just never been any meaningful secessionist movement besides the Confederates and the resultant Civil War. Hence, there is no protocol for peacefully leaving the Union at the moment, and likely will not be unless the very unlikely happens and a state votes to leave. The states definitely aren't unbreakable, as stated before Texas has being able to break up in their Constitution, and West Virgina broke off of Virgina.
