I'm not even sure how to embark upon the same area without reclaiming anyways without /die'ing the game world before it saves, which I did not do.

In this case the easiest way would be to delete your save, then paste it back into your save folder.  If necessary you'd redownload the map.  It would be as if your failed map had never happened.  Unorthodox, as I said  ;)

edited to add my update:

I've met my dwarves.  Haven't embarked yet, but have attached to one of them (she's awesome and already talking to me!) and have paused to write down the important parts of the pre-embark history and her/her group's background.  I swear I'll get around to playing!  But this must be done first  *imp is muttering 'type.  enter.  paragraph.  spacebar.  type.  type more.  recheck character.  type.'  This might be very worrysome but for the fact that she does seem to be working feverishly as she mutters, so perhaps this mood is not in danger of failing*

I think I'll redownload the world, I tried to reclaim a few times and each time an ever growing legion of undead (including every enemy I slew because they were in a stockpile) trampled the initial 7.

Awesome to see this rolling along so well.

Mav, just reclaim!  Seal off those caverns and keep it going.

There's no contest here, just a set of parallel universes, and if your civilization needs to be built on the corpses of its predecessors, so be it!

I will be embarking tomorrow, as I have an extremely early morning coming up.

Edit: Just saw your latest post, just start on a fresh world.  There is no winning, and losing is fun!

I'm glad you're supporting me too Qracle.

I suppose this is a game with no such thing as winning so I can't feel too dirty about starting anew.

I would continue reclaiming like a mandorf but it's literally become an armed legion above ground, my people don't even make it into the fortress at this point ha!

I've got to hit the sack now for the night, attending some business early tomorrow morning as well.

I'll be hitting the embark site with a new plan laid out mid day tomorrow.

Good night to you all and may you carry good fortune as a weapon against your enemies.

Meet me
How the beginning began
How the beginning ended
Early golden moments
Empty menace
End of first year (pics of everything)
First half of 81
Second half of 81
ooc overview, beginning of 82
First half of 82
Second half of 82
The lazy siege
End of the procrastinating siege, and overview
A year passes quickly; new traps and their test-to-be (pics of everything)
Fit for the queen

Here's 'my' dwarf, for anyone interested in that.  I put marks around the traits that will most strongly affect the decisions she makes in leading the fort.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Here's her/the fort's backstory, in case anyone is interested in that.  It's nothing like what I'd intended (I'd planned on running a fort with a sane leader who got stuck taking a group of loonies that want to study ways to use or control the undead out to where they could do that without risking all dwarfdom) but once I met her my mind clicked and my whole set of plans changed.  Heh, kinda like my joining this thread.  Changed all my DF playing plans for the current and nearterm future, and I'm glad for it.

Dude. Albatross corpses. Dude.

Guess the walls I was in the middle of building have just become obsolete.

Time to smelt that sphalerite and start training up a military.

I'd be tempted to roof them myself, if it seemed safe to try that.

From the first chapter
For anyone who hadn’t known, you can manipulate where you actually start on the embark site a little bit if there’s multiple biomes, by actually starting the embark with one or another of those various biomes selected.  It tends to start you near the center of the area you selected.  For the shrublands, that’s the middle of the map – for the desert that’s a bit more to the northeast…. Further away from that scary ocean.  I picked that option!  Here’s where this choice placed my wagon.

Oh, and I forgot to mention my starting skills.  For those interested:

I thought about that, but it would have taken 800+ blocks. So I walled and roofed a much smaller area.

I'm afraid sir that you did not make the listings. I may update them though as some players seem to be mia and it'd be nice to have a full 10.

I'm not sure I understand the need to have a limit.

I'm not sure I understand the need to have a limit.

Our OP is worried that if there's too many people participating in this parallel play (read enthusiastically and frequently posting updates) that the thread and everyone participating will become hopelessly muddled and confused.  He decided to keep it to 10 people, including himself, and to take the first 10 that said they were interested.  It's only been a couple of days since this thread started, so it's hard to tell if everyone who got in on the first ten actually are going to actively play.

I'm withholding my own opinion of this - I can see that happening, but I can also see it remaining easy and OK to follow - human nature as it is, those who sign up to play often don't actually follow through.  People get really interested, then get really bored and go away, or people think they'll be really interested and then get distracted or whatever.

I've not actually seen a thread about parallel play like this before.  I like the idea and am not surprised that more people want to join, especially as it gets going and we've just started to get going!  If you never noticed this thread before today and are wondering why you never saw it, it just got moved to this part of the forum from the DF Dwarf Mode Discussion area.

I bet if you stay involved you'll end up being a recognized participant (seems like an 11th got added earlier this evening), but do be gentle with our OP.  He's new himself, and doing a smashing job methinks of being interesting, involved, and as inclusive as he believes it's possible for him to be without going all to pieces with overwhelmed confusion  ;D

Start at the beginning...

4th Granite 81

Snapshot

I had five kids until a month ago. Woot. Peasant.

Current Stocks

I brought a farmer, brewer and cook on this embark. Something a little different from my normal route. This has sure left me with a lot of food an booze.
I was able to trade for four sets of metal armor with weapons, minus 3 metal headpieces. We'll get about making those once the toy boats I bought get melted.

Topside

Here's my aborted attempt at annexing a large area topside. I've got a few ideas about how to go about expanding once I get a few fully metal clad dorfs.

Subterranean Tree Farm

Butcher the water buffalo. Lock the door. And come back in a year or so.

Living Quarters(initial)

I'm using quads to help avert vampire fatalities. They'll get smoothed and furnitured up over the next few months. Gotta keep them dorfs happy when I send them to their deaths...

Animals

I went heavy on the animals this embark and lost one dog to the albatross corpses last year.
Which left the score Dogs: ??? StupiFlyingUndead: 1
This year I think I'll train them up as war dogs.

Baddies

Another round ready to be made into dog food.

Other items of note
I finally found the other cavern. It had water. Fresh water. =)
My smelters have been busy getting me zinc for cages so I can start harvesting goblinite and getting training dummies for my yet-to-be-formed military.
Going to set up a couple of fake entryways and a few roach motels for my planned titan and FB menagerie.
Oh, and I got this

If I can find my muse, I'll write some story tomorrow.

Woo hoo, you've been busy Varnifane!

From the first chapter
An update from me:
Story first, gotta have story -

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Ahem.  That’s right –

There isn’t –supposed- to be gold here, right?  I know we got a surprise aquifer, but DF hack wasn’t used to check for that, right?  Cause yep yep, that’s gold I just found.
