Ok, so I start up the game, we're in the bank and everything, and an... interesting series of events happens, the first thing that happens is that I click the clock without scheduling any actions. I didn't mean to do this, I sort of did it accidentally when not paying full attention, and trying to click the map just above it. It's nobody's fault but my own, and as it turns out, it might have actually been a good thing. See I was about to send Kelli and Lucus out to the house to the southeast, but since that didn't happen, they were all at the bank when what happened next went down, which might just have saved some lives. Because immediately after clicking the watch, an event pops up, and it's one that makes me genuinely scared.
12:00 PMNow, I had some trouble finding a decent picture for this, so I just wound up using the polaroid the game uses to represent the mob as a whole.
Open up in the name of our Lord!
Ok, what the hell? Where did these guys come from.
Damned if I know, but I don't like the look of them. You should talk to them, you're the leader.
Ermmm... Why are you here?
We're here to exact retribution upon you for your crimes in this land. Give us the one named Kelli!
What? Why do they want me? I'm really not getting why they're doing this.
Why do you people want Kelli? Also why are you doing this? It's kind of something we'd like to know.
Because of the rampant destruction and death you have caused to the people of this land, you have spread foul pop music among them, you have shown a reckless disregard for them, and you have slaughtered a great many of them.
... No offence, but I'm not getting what you guys are getting at, how exactly have we killed anybody?
Yeah, it's kind of ridiculous that you're trying to murder me over something I don't think we even did, I mean we did do the rick astley thing, but it wasn't like we killed anyone with that, and even if some zombies wandered over and bit someone because of that, it's not like we murdered anyone directly, I don't think our actions have been unreasonable at all here.
We refer not to the ordinary folk of before, but to the eternal children that now walk the land?
... What?
The zombies, we're talking about the frigging zombies here! We consider them to be people, and sacred ones at that, and you have murdered a great many of them. We were going to kill all of you, but we made a vote and decided that would be too much effort, so we're going to let you offer up the one that did the most damage, we'll sacrifice her to our god and then everyone can go on their way. If you don't do this we'll just kill you all.
Ok, that makes more sense in a crazy cult way... One question though, if murdering zombies is some kind of sin for you guys, how do you guys avoid it?
Er... well we try really hard not to, but sometimes it can't be avoided, and when that happens we can give up material goods like food and ammunition to the priest who then pardons us for-
Catholic style hypocrisy, got it... Well guys this seems to be a tough situation. I'm not really sure we can take 'em all...
This is what I've come to call the "Fuck You" event. Basically a lynch mob has surrounded us, and they want to kill one random member of the team, if we hand them over, the mob will leave the rest alone, but we lose a member of the team, possibly the most valuable one as well in this case. We can fight them, but I've had entire groups wiped out by trying to fight this event before. If we fight them there's a decent chance someone will die here, and I'm really not being dramatic (well I am, but it's legitimate drama). I have to think long and hard before deciding what to do about this one...
I'll go.
Wait... what?
It's like you said... I'm really not sure you guys are in a state to take them, and if it'll help you guys get away, I'll go.
This... seems really out of character for you.
Eh... the thing is... I'm tired. I'm tired of struggling, I'm tired of fighting, I'm tired of killing zombies all the time... well I'm not tired of that last one, killing zed's never gets old.
BLASPHEMY!
SHUT UP! I'm trying to have a moment here... Anyway yeah... I'm tired, and I think I really am willing to give it up for the team here...
I think... that's actually very big of you, and that you're making the right decision here. I'd like to take a moment to thank you for making a sacrifice to save us.
Kelli... don't do this, I liked you.
It's alright Tracy, just make it out of here and hook up with some hot babe for me someday would you?
...
And Lucus... stop being a pussy so much.
I'll... try?
And Nichole...
You're about to kick me with some kind of insult again aren't you?
... You know, not this time. Well I guess this is goodby then, you've been annoying a lot of the time, but we had a good run, good luck to you all.
... you'll be missed.
We really appreciate your cooperation in all of this, seriously, we're really thankful.
Thankful enough not to kill me?
Well no, we've still got to sacrifice someone...
Figures...
Ultimately I realise there was only one choice we could make that made sense to me...
Oh, screw this.
What?
I'm not letting them take you. We're gonna fight them.
It was the only choice that made sense to me.
You... what?
You know, this is now starting to sound out of character for
you.
Not really, I hate this kind of crazy bullshit, I don't wanna lose some valuable member of our team just to pacify some crazy cultists. It kinda undermines the whole vibe we've been building ever since we got together. Sure this is the more difficult path, but if someone's going to die here today, they're going to die as part of the team.
So... they can take our lives, but they can't take our teamwork?
Shit yes, where's a tin of blue paint when you need it?
Probably out of luck when it comes to paint, we left it back at the house.
I think... this is seriously the nicest thing you've ever done, and I think it pretty much overturns your really long history of douchebaggery.
Eh, the way I look at it, even if one or two of us winds up dying or something, it's fairly unlikely that person will be me as long as I try to stay at the back.
GO FOR THE ONE WITH THE CIGARETTE! HE'S THE LEADER!
Oh... fuck... I just had to say it didn't I?
The following battle is brief but intense. The mob rushes up towards the group and shatters the fragile line they formed in the bank. They quickly grab Kristopher before he can get away and the scene quickly starts turning into something from The Godfather. They hit him with baseball bats, cricket bats, brass knuckles... Oh fuck no... OH FUCK NO!
Kelli jumps behind a counter and grabs a double-barreled shotgun. She uses it to great effect blasting and badly injuring seven of them. The others then immediately rush in and start attacking the rest, the mob breaks, and one tries to make a run for it, but the rest of the team takes him out before he gets away. With the mob dead, every gathers around Kristopher who is lying in a pool of blood.That's... that's a lot of blood.
Fuck... looks like this might be it.
Come on, don't die now... you're going to make it...
No... I don't think I will, you do the team proud... for me... you hear?
I will... but seriously you're going to make it, most of that isn't your blood.
Really? Huh... Well I feel like shit.
Which is an excellent sign that actually you're going to live, congratulations.
So... they're all dead then?
Yeah... I checked the bodies and they didn't really have much on them except the weapons they were carrying, but one of them had this slip of paper.
Well... I suppose that's something at least.
So this last slip of paper gives us the exact time of when this rescue thing is happening. It's not the frequency that we were after, but at least we now know exactly when we'll need to be at the factory. In fact I can calculate it to the hour how much time we have left. We have exactly
41 Hours Remaining... I'll probably be showing the time remaining along with hour updates from now on...
Amazingly we actually managed to make it through this event without anyone dying... In all the times I've encountered this even, I think that's a first. Kristopher is very badly injured though. He has major contusions, minor lacerations, and a broken left ankle. The game also tells me he's near death and that even the most minor of injuries could probably kill him, so there's no guarantee he isn't still going to die. I also notice that everyone meanwhile has a serious case of post tea-party munchies. A couple have even reached "starving" status, and I think we need to cook up some food for them. So Kelli is going to cook some food with the ingredients we have as a first priority. Kristopher is still the best person to do medical treatment, even when he's badly injured so he patches himself up. Meanwhile Lucus and Tracy make an assault on the house to the southeast... We still need to keep moving. Tracy and Lucus manage to kill a bunch of zombies at the house, and after two hours we've burnt through the rest of our food and finished patching up Kristopher, some people, Tracy in particular are still pretty hungry, and we need more food, so we go ahead and make our assault on the house to the southeast.
4:00 PM - 37 Hours Remaining
The Team has finished clearing out the house...Ok, is it just me, or are there a lot more zombies around than usual. There was a crowd gathering around the bank when we left, and now we're having to deal with a dozen of them around this house... What's the deal with that?
I dunno, maybe something's drawing them to the area? Like all the noise and mess we made back at the bank? Maybe they've run out of food in other areas of the city and are drawing in on us now. I think things are just going to keep getting hotter until we finally get out of here.
Which we can't do without that frequency.
You sure you're still good to walk on that ankle?
Yeah, I'll be alright. Splint seems to be holding fine... You sure you're alright? You seem to have a new bruise on your head that I'm only just noticing now that I'm not lying in a pool of blood.
I'll just take some pain killers, It'll be fine.
In the next hour the team has to deal with some of the zombies outside attacking them, the hour after that they manage to treat Tracy, and Kelli kills six zombies. By seven, they've finished searching the house.
7:00 PM - 34 Hours RemainingOk, so we found a whole bunch of tools, and some food, but no frequency.
Damn, well we'll just have to keep searching, let's work on the warehouse to the east, Kelli, you and Lucus make an assault.
8:00 PM - 33 Hours Remaining
Kelli and Lucus come back from their assault.Well, we took out a whole fourteen of them that were hanging around outside...
Things really are getting tougher aren't they? Look let's just keep moving.
We make the assault on the warehouse and after a few setbacks in the form of Kelli deciding she needed to nap for a couple of hours. We manage to finish searching the Warehouse (despite a few zombie assaults). It is however past midnight by the time we finish.
Saturday, July 9th
1:00 AM - 28 Hours RemainingStill no frequency?
No, but we did find a bunch of carving knives... I wonder if these are antiques too.
What?
Never mind, reference to something you weren't there for. So what do we do now?
We keep searching these buildings I suppose. Not much else we can do.
We could try looking in the hospital.
You think someone there will have known the frequency?
Well I figure it's worth a shot, it's a bigger building so it should have a bigger chance of having a clue, right?
Maybe... or maybe it will be a waste of time. The hospital looks like it could be really tough to take too, with the kind of resistance we've been running into, it's probably swarming with zombies.
Well, we could try taking the last two buildings on this block, then if we don't find anything, go for the hospital.
Ordinarily I'd say yes, that seems like the smart option, but we'd waste more time that way.
How's that?
Well we've only got a little over a day's worth of time left, every hour is pretty precious at this point. If we take the buildings to the south, that means we'll have to cross our trail to make it back over to the hospital, which will waste at least a couple more hours, which is time I'm not sure we can afford.
So... what do we do?
I'm... honestly not sure.
End of Update 12.
