Are you guys seriously concerned that children will recover deleted files?

Yeah, he's talking about deleting the crap, not making it forensically unrecoverable.

Never underestimate the ability of someone who has no idea what they're doing to do exactly what you don't want them to do.

Does the computer not have a windows product key on the box?

Just download a copy of whatever version it is and format and reinstall.

If they manage to recover deleted porn, they deserve to see it.

"Deleting files sure is fun. Delete detele delete."
"HAY I HEARD DAT deleting files don't work!"
"No wai!"
"Ya! Let's see if uncle bob is a perv ololololololol!"
(this, from my research, is roughly equivalent to the dialect the generation in question uses. Regional variations may apply.)
-googling-
-file recovery application-
-lifelong embarrassment with their parents-
That is how I and probably OP imagines this going. Kids are smarter than you think, especially when it comes to computers, especially when it's things you want to hide from them.

I see it going more as "Oh cool, we can play those games that we got that we couldn't because of our ancient computer"

I can tell you from experience that if you don't already have your undeleter downloaded that the act of downloading it will almost certainly overwrite whatever you were trying to undelete.

I guess that depends on just how many files we're talking about.

Oh, you... You didn't have a computer with the internet growing up, did you? Or were you the rare exception and had proper supervision?

Parenting, amiright.

The problem is not that kids will look and see porn if they want to, the problem is Nadaka doesn't want to enable or condone the access of it by inaction on his part. I'm sure that they'd probably not bother looking in all likelihood, but a little bit of honest 'I did everything I could to make sure it couldn't happen' is about the least you can do. It's better to be more paranoid than probably justified in this situation, because do you really want to be dealing with the fallout if it all goes pear-shape?
