So is this going to get going, or shall I take over the embarking process?

Do people have any particular site preferences (i.e. joyous wilds jungle) or special needs (i.e. horrible computer need small embark)?

Well, I'd signed up for a turn just after I finished mine. Like Bill Clinton, I worked hard to get the fortress into a suitable state before it was totally screwed over by the next guy.

Unlike Bill Clinton, as a sucksession game players we are not limited to the number of turns we take. I'm going to take a look at the raws of the game to see whether we can gen a new world - I got that we only have one cavern layer so if I make a new world with more layers I want to see whether we'll get the plants in the right cavern layers. I'm also going to make it so that nerves and cartilage and nails heal over time as they do (at roughly the same rate of bone).

I would like a turn.  If there are any militia dwarves available, I will take the highest ranked/skilled one not currently dorfed.  If none are available, I'll just take whoever.  Named Lightning.

As it turns out, a completely changed my raws a while back so I need to "normalize" them. Somehow. The current world for Golddepths also appears to have most sites conquered by dwarves actually, and I think we could do with more of a challenge.

Haunted tropical forest with clay, no soil.

:P

Anyway, if I may, I'd like a metal worker of some sort, what kind matters not.

I didn't screw it up intentionally.
Perhaps because of stupidity, (forgot to get rid of one stark raving mad dwarf who later died of starvation. One zombie can screw up a resurrecting biome fort)
but not intentionally.

Out of curiosity, do people want to try a new fortress using the new Genesis mod? It would be pretty much faster to deal with although I will add pig-tails back in (because removing a method to get drunk is just not on).

Edit: Fuck it I'm going to go ahead and do it. Lets see if we can out-do !!Drunk Fortress!! with four years of fortress play!

In other news, since the new release of Genesis uses the Steam Engine code from DFhack, and I can't use that on Mac, I'm going to run it in WINE. Are people OK with me wrapping up the whole game to pass on? Else you'll need to install the latest version of DFhack with the steam engines added.

I'm not going to promote the use of Steam Engines too much, but they do have this !!Feature!! where the parts wear out over time and the boiler can explode if exposed to rioting dwarves (according to the manual).

I have our world, and it looks great. I've only generated 100 years of history but its a big map and we've got plenty of fun in store.

Are we still calling the fortress Golddepths and if so (or in any case) shall I call DF Prospect to see if there's enough potentially gold-bearing stone present?

OK, so here's our dwarves:

Archmagion Vallarian Folghast, A.K.A. my over-inflated ego, as the Armorsmith and Farmer
Gavakis as the Broker, Mason, and Architect
Dr. Valrandir as the Doctor (Jade dwarf, only doctoring skills)
Lightning as Security (Steel dwarf, only fighting skills. Also Shitcurity?)
Brewster as the Brewer and Miner

I have two dwarves left, one shroom dwarf who is a miner and siege operator, and a stone dwarf who is a miner and engraver.

Yes, I've gone all out on the miners. Someone's got to dig this place up, right?

-Have embarked. WTF is up with goats as "u" symbols? The ASCII on this is totally screwed up.

OUR FORTRESS IS:

Golddepths the Greatest Imperial Fortress

WE ARE:

Greatfist the Brilliant Ageless Magic-Master of Gems

I switched to curses because the original tileset was giving me a headache. The stone still looks funny to me though.

For the record: This is using the latest Genesis mod and requires DFhack because of the steam engines. I'm not planning on using those yet.

We're on a Joyous Wilds area (I think?) and so there aren't any undead around this time. There are no towers in this world either. However, there are two extra civilisations that might cause undead to appear, and those are extremely dangerous. Once this fort develops there will be significantly more !!FUN!!.

For the initial construction, I've decided to use the old bunker design since I liked it. We'll see how the fort develops, but the old bunker design should work for now.

I haven't hit any caverns yet. Genesis 5.6 caverns are supposed to be far more varied.

I brought along some goats and hounds. There aren't any cows or horses or donkeys or other "normal" creatures available to the dwarves, but we have "kodo" beasts as pack animals. Whatever they are.

The only weapons we have are no-quality copper picks and axes. We have no armor. However, we do have bismuthinite, malachite, and cassiterite ore in the wagon.

In anticipation for future fun, I've put in place my usual environmental policy: No tree left standing.

Gavakis is techically our expedition leader. I don't know whether people want to be set as the expedition leader or mayor for their turn; this seems to make sense but it is technically a hax method of setting the leader. It is reasonable IMO given the circumstances.

In other news, the "flux" we have on-site appears to be fluorospar. One of the new minerals we have available to us in Genesis.

My dwarf is currently planting the farm with plump helmets. Most are "content", even though we have beds set up already.

Update: Summer Migration! We got six more dwarves, including some metalcrafters. Dr Valrandir is going to make some more beds for them. I've selected a bookkeeper and a manager from the group, so we should be able to produce a complete inventory of the fort now.

I think Kodo beast are those things that boost nearby unit's abilities in Warcraft III.  That or those giant lizard things out in those islands.    Or I have no idea what I'm talking about.
And what is the point in having a boiler?
