... anywho...

This is only the second mandatory evacuation order in NYC history. Map of the evacuation area.

Some more of the traditional storm watcher links.

Wunderground public advisory page. All sorts of data available from that page.

NHC advisory page. Again, lots of extra data. Less flashy but usually more direct.

Making Light are doing their thing, with a basic contacts and discussion post, an alerts and resources list and a historical instructional on how to batten a hatch. Because they are alpha nerds.

Oh snap, mandatory? Ohmygod. I only heard about the evac of Fire island. Shit this is getting serious. My school is in zone A. Fortunately, I live in the upper east side, 69th and 2nd (no I'm not rich), so I'm fortunately not there.

Huh, apparently Toronto is going to get hit by this storm. Hopefully everything doesn't start flooding like what happened with Hurricane Hazel.

Hehe. Talked to the manager of the nearby riteaid.

His words: "Theres been a big run on water, chips and booze. Some food too, but mostly chips, water and booze". There are people walking by with bottles of win and sick-packs.

“Also, the MTA has announced that they will start shutting down service of subways starting at 7 tonight, buses at 9 tonight. So if you need mass transit to leave Zone A, there really is a timeline when if you don’t get there before they stop, you’re going to be- have to find another way to get out.

Anyone else get the feeling Bloomberg had to stop himself from saying, "You're going to be totally fucked."  Because it reads like he's pretty damn worried.

I kind of wish he had said that. People never take evacuation orders seriously and then blame politicians for not emphasizing evacuation orders enough after they get hurt because of it. If he had told them they'd be totally fucked if they didn't leave no one could say he didn't tell them so.

thank god for not living in America!
I avoid most hurricanes!

But you also miss out on all this freedom

You can practically feel the liberty radiating from the image,
coating you in a thin yet slick film of Justice.

On topic, I live in Boston, and expect to be either disappointed with the storm, or dead.

Snow storms. I love those. Getting pretty rare though, weren't any last year. The year before was wonderful though.

Well, greatorder's British, so either endless rain or alien attacks solved by the Doctor.

For myself, it's blizzards, ice storms, or the occasional severe thunderstorm.

Fire or flood, I think. The former's interesting and the latter's fairly easy to avoid (don't live in a floodplain isn't exactly rocket science.), and both can have potential agricultural benefits.

I kinda' enjoy hurricanes too if I'm several (dozen) miles inland, unless they start throwing up some tornadoes. Generally if you live a bit inland and have decent walls, they're not too bad. 20+ years of florida storms, still kicking with only a few trees uprooted and a couple holes in roofs.

That said, remembered have some fairly close family up in NYC, though I'm not quite sure where in the place. Maybe a lil'worried-ish now, on a level more personal than the whole "Sorry about you folks living on a coastline" bit.

Howdy, neighbour. Have work tomorrow? I do!

Chances of the T running past noon seem to be 50/50 at this point...

So this morning there was a 3-foot tsunami in Hawaii due to a Canadian offshore earthquake.

Poseidon has something against the US.
