I checked about a week ago and saw that the turn hadn't been sent after like four or five days with no notice.  I then promptly forgot about this until yesterday, at which point my EOFS computer was acting funny and I didn't feel like messing with it.

Once again, if anyone can find a good replacement, I wouldn't be averse to handing off control of Hawkwood.

Turn sent.

Hello to everyone that still enjoys playing this wonderful classic game, several of us at the EFS Steam Group are starting a new PBEM game and are looking for committed players to join, if you are interested please send me an email at bryanjosephmills@gmail.com.

Also, here is the link to the Emperor Wars Mod, (in it's final version a combination of EFS 1.4, Reality Mod, and Emperor Wars) if you have any problems running it please let me know.

Please remember Emperor Wars is the most advanced Mod out there and the Church, League, and Symbiots are really aggressive but it is a lot of fun.

EFS – Emperor Wars Mod Full.zip

Hope some of you are interested in starting a new game we would like to have some experienced and dedicated players.  We still have Houses Decados and Li Halan open.

Thank you.

Background: Reality and Emperor Wars Mod
« Reply #947 on: May 24, 2013, 02:43:24 pm »

I thought I would provide some background on the Reality and Emperor Wars Mod.

I loved playing EFS back in 1997, and really enjoyed the Nova patch.

In 2012, I rediscovered and first found that someone had created the Reality Mod, which included units from the Emperor of the Fading Suns Books printed by Holistic Design.

It included new units such as the Vorox, Brother Battle, Sanctuary Aeon, etc.

EoFS Reality Mod: https://sites.google.com/site/efsreality/

This got me to thinking wouldn't it be great to have a Historical Game map based on the Emperor of the Fading Suns Books "Survey of the Known Worlds"

EoFS Noble Fiefs: http://store.holistic-design.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_12

So, I went to work with the EFS Map Editor making the Historical Map that I also wanted, which includes all of the details and accurate landmarks for each Known World.  After weeks and editing I finished Emperor Wars.

EoFS Emperor Wars: https://sites.google.com/site/emperorwarsfadingsuns/

It is a combination of Reality and an accurate Historical Map of the Known Worlds.

You can download the combined files here: http://www.mediafire.com/?gz9mrujkbv488tc

If really makes the game much more fun, and I hope that you enjoy it.

I'll try the mod out Vertab, but I don't think I'm gonna be up for another game of EoFS for awhile. Glad to see some folks still care about this horribly bugged gem.

Margrave,

Hope you enjoy Emperor Wars,  I understand the rigors of EFS fatigue that is what inspired me to create Emperor Wars.

If you are ever interested in a PBEM game just shoot me an email, and if you know of anyone wanting to join the current Emperor Wars game at the Steam Board please let me know.

Thanks.

Looking at some of the economy side changes you made it should help fix some of the late game fatigue.  How long do games typically last, turn wise?

Edit: The thing with the sending of the turn.

Mainiac,

Sorry, please forgive me if I misunderstood your question so I will provide several answers.

1. Time between sending and recieving turns: (Turns during a five player PBEM game with dedicated EoFS players has been about 24 to 48 hours barring someone doesn't have a real life interference, that has been the average time)
2. Time to complete a turn: (Since you start out with multiple worlds and resources early in Emperor Wars, the time to complete a turn has ranged from 30 minutes to 2 hours)
3. Entire game: (We just completed the 40th turn of the current game of Emperor Wars I am in and we started at the first of March)

Hope this answered your question.

Also, I think the three major changes that makes Emperor Wars more playable is:

1. Each House starts out with multiples worlds reflecting their ownership in the Fading Suns Universe including the Church and League
2. You can now "rent" freighters and bulk haulers from the Charioteer Guild in the League via a Starport instead of waiting to research that tech meaning mass invasions can start sooner
3. You can also hire mercenaries from the Muster via starports and although they are expensive they allow you access to good units early on
4. The "Major Change" that reflects the Fading Suns books from Holistic Design is that almost all worlds have an Agora, the League was the link to the Second Republic and are the source of all trade so you can now have a place to buy and sell resources on almost any world except for Stigmata & Symbiot worlds

Please let me know if any of this interests you in joining our newest PBEM game.

Thank you.

What I meant was how many turns does it take to play a game from start to finish?

Thank you, my fellow delegates, for your unwavering support. The dream I had as a wee little noblekid has finally become reality. I always knew I was a special snowflake, and what better way of agreeing with me than by supporting my claim to the throne? Kudos to all of you, old chaps.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got an ill-conceived al-Malik invasion to deal with. I think they're aftem my precious bodily fluids.

Yeah, it's really the number of turns that makes EFS grueling. We're 67 turns in - we started last October I think - and if Palazzo doesn't become emperor, who knows the next time someone will be in great position to make the attempt. I almost feel like this is the end of the game. If Palazzo wins, he wins, if he loses, we all lose. But in either case I lose, so there's no way I want him to win.

The one thing I don't understand about Vertab Nukks' mod is why does Hakim al-Malik's portrait shows a Hazat nobleman? There's even the Hazat coat of arms in the background.

Yeah I've started really phoning it in on the long term planning front.  Look at how few cities I've put in over the past 10 turns.  Just not worth the effort.  Damn shame, if they'd only made this game less micromanagement hell.

I would be ok with calling the game off at the end of these emperor elections, regardless of the outcome. That way we all have a clear directive and a clear path to the end. I feel exhausted just thinking about negotiations over my captured cities on Absolution, my obsession with Cadavus, Byzantium passage rights, punishing Palazzo if he loses, rebuilding Aqizzar's empire, who the next threat is, 1+ hour long turns of micromanagement, etc. My cities marker have gone out of the "box" now and I hardly look forward to opening the turn knowing I'm still cranking out engineers and growing. All I want to see is Palazzo die. My one Christmas present.

Yeah, I'd be fine with that.
Meaning ending the game after the elections, not dying.

Emperor of the Fading Suns Game Echo Closed
« Reply #959 on: May 25, 2013, 11:43:23 am »

I am really impressed by the activity for EoFS on this board, you all seem to have alot of fun and alot of fatigue from playing.

Mainiac - First to reanswer your question, for an entire game of Emperor Wars, I think we will be done somewhere between turn 50 to 70 right now we are already starting the fight for Byzantium Secundus.

Il Palazzo - The Hakim photo was a carry over from my predecessor that created the Reality Mod, I am not sure why he used a Hazat photo for an Al-Malik Avatar.

Anyways, it was great to interact with all of you, we have found our 5 Players for EFS Emperor Wars Game Echo at Steam.

The recruiting for Emperor of the Fading Suns Game Echo at Steam is now closed.

Players:
House Li Halan – Ming
House Hazat – Tormod
House Decados – Bryan M.
House Hawkwood – Jab2121
House Al-Malik – Brian Rubin

Thank you to everyone that replied to my requests and look for more Emperor the Fading Suns PBEM Games at Steam in the future.

Good luck in your game, may the best claimant for Emperor win!
