That's a mighty fine collection of vessels you have there Palazzo.  I believe some thanks are in order for keeping them in good shape all the way into the game's seventh decade.  How often do you see that happen?
Cheers, Aqizzar, I'm glad you took good care of it. Although I can't promise I won't waste all of that good work.

@Margrave: hey, no hiding nobles behind the map's edge! That's not cool. I almost missed the second one.

This empire needs an emperor, and I'm the best and only candidate.

Their cries were muffled by the emptiness of space. The pilots of the false emperor's freighter were incinerated by the clear aim of the archangel's lasers. Their souls drifted to the Pancreator, or some great void, never knowing whether the man they died for was crowned. Now every house had declared open war with the wretched Hazat. Lazarus had only but count the days until his demise.

Forgive me, they weren't there to hide, I had been shuffling that Noble all across that lower continent in a giant game of duck shoot, back and forth, back and forth...

Turn sent.  If there's an upside to my position, it's that I have very few decisions to agonize over.

High above the smoky skies of Vril-ya the fleet of House al-Malik had just received a coded transmission from a courier ship on the edge of the system.

It passed to the computer onboard the flagship Vicious Return Policy and to the waiting eyes of nobleman in charge. In that transmission was security footage and last minute instructions received from spies on Byzantium. It would seem that the Emir Arus had not been nearly so well hidden as he had hoped. Recordings showed the Good Emir had been gunned down while supping upon an impossibly rare mahogany dining table from Ancient Urth. And if that was not enough to dismay any member of the al-Malik family, secretly a Great-Uncle of the Caliph had been sent as extra insurance. He too had been killed after a rigged explosive device had erupted while smoking his favorite hookah.

As these terrible tragedies enfolded before him, Haroun al-Malik smiled.

"Two less threats to my succession." he quietly whispered to himself.

Catching his attention, a bridge officer saluted and announced, "My lord, the attack was a success, the enemy lies before you."

Looking up Haroun had almost missed the end of the battle. Once proud warships that had fought numerous campaigns against Symbiot, Vau and Rebel alike now lay shattered and burning in the orbit of the planet below, the only ship that remained was the enemy dreadnought. Pitted and scarred from conflicts all over the Known Galaxy it stood as the last of its noble brethren of the Imperial Fleet.

"Shall we demand their surrender sire?"

With a lazy flick of his hand Haroun commanded, "No, destroy it and any pods it jettisons. The last of the Old Emperor's Legacy dies here. Then set course for out of this system."

"We have much to do."

Arrogant maybe, but I have to fluff my own pompous importance while I can.

No matter who wins this game, you'd always be the legitimate Emperor in my eyes, Aqizzar.

Man, the imperial servicemen sure got their aiming skills rusted by decades of inactivity. Exactly a single hit scored.
Glass cannon indeed.

Well you lucked out on this turn, since I destroyed two freighters of yours with a raider but accidentally clicked on an empty hex rather than land on a planet and selected "yes" to attack and destroy a raider from Margrave. So I had to reload and only one freighter of yours was destroyed that time.

What can I say, crewing freighters is not exactly the most desirable job nowadays.
Besides, red shirts, after all, are a part of Hazat dress code.

It's probably more desirable than being a mastiff tank flying red banners on Absolution. I was amused by how many attempts to bombard the first one with Vlad cruisers it took to kill it. Now if it had been a DNA assault legion...

...it would be sitting on Byzantium.
