Dogs actually are pretty good for livestock too. Same traits as pigs, but breed faster.

But yes, pigs. Best way to mass produce meat.  Sheep are for wool, and fuck the rest.

(Wellll okay unless you like certain animals if you specifically WANT to farm cavies then that's a good reason to farm cavies. But they're bad for food :P)

But dogs don't produce infinite quantities of cheese.

I'm a bad person.  I modded cavies to yield a bar of soap when butchered.   :(

So in my forts early on a few cavy are along for emergency first aid use.

Wait, so pigs don't have to eat at all?

I catch my pigs eating small animals, like slugs and bugs, all the time.

Holy cow share that mod script please! That'd be awesome.
I remember when I learned about pigs not grazing too... phenomenal day.
I prefer geese. They're bigger then chickens, and mature faster then turkeys. I don't deal much w/ eggs, but they have average egg production. I generally go for the butchering so you get meat, bones, skulls and skins pretty quick too.

Blue peahens produce the same amount of meat as both the average goose and turkey and have a constistently higher egg yield.

When I get around to finishing it, I will.

This is not true. Peafowl lay 6-8 eggs, while turkeys lay 10-14. They do grow up in 1 year instead of 2, though.

One drawback to both is that they are not, in fact, pigs.

If someone modded pigs to give beard wool, could we mod in monotreme (egg laying) pigs?

Boars are great. I had a whole bunch of them trained by my militia commander so they followed him around everywhere. Eventually we got hit by necromancers so they zombified and gored him to death but it was great while it lasted.

I prefer boars to pigs if I can capture them. They yield tusks.
Same for me but then I did sponsor them.

It's not that much work to add something like this.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

If you want Pigotremes, just replace [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] with the following:

Adjust the clutch size as desired. The current one roughly replicates the multiple litter rare tag.

If you want tusks, add

under [BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:STANDARD_MATERIALS] along with

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

under [BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:STANDARD_TISSUES]. Add [TRAINABLE] to add war bearded pigs.
