Red Bull Stratos! (Or, Skydiving From SPAAAAAACE!)

An Austrian BASE jumper and all-around daredevil named Felix Baumgartner is going to ride a gigantic balloon up to 23 miles altitude, inside a pressurized capsule while wearing a modified space suit. Then he's going to open the door, look out at the black sky and the Earth curving beneath him, and jump.

And then, if everything goes according to plan, he'll freefall for most of that 23 miles, breaking the sound barrier, then pull the chute and glide to a conventional parachute landing. Except for the "from SPAAAAAACE" part.

Best part? It's all going to be streamed live.

Here's hoping weather cooperates. Because the balloon material is so thin, they need windspeed to be 3mph or less, from ground level all the way up to 800 feet (where the top of the balloon is when inflated...like I said, crazy-ass big balloon).

It's close enough to space to qualify as space for most people.
