The teams spread out to explore the rest of the ship. Some remain to guard the captives, and restore power to the bridge. The latter proves to be a rather trivial matter, as the pirates merely switched off the Bridge power breaker. The rest of the team examines their newly claimed ship, and finds no more pirates. Most of the mining ship's systems appear to be fine, the food supplies are well stocked, and so is the ship's ammo reserves, but there's no evidence of any valuables on the ship.

You figure out that whatever you want to do with your newly acquired ship, you'll have to do it fast. The radar has detected 3 more incoming ship's, and judging from their radar jamming infrastructure, they appear to be quite a bit more proffessionall than the pirates you just caught.

So... our options

1) All boarders go back to Salvation, we fight against the approaching pirates, then we shall see
2) We fight with 2 ships
3) We try to run away using both ships
4) Quickly loot the cargoship (electronics, jumpcore, prisoners, sensors) and run away using Salvation (we may also set up a trap for boarding pirates with explosives on board)
5) Fight with Salvation, while some crew try to bring the trophy in safety

And whatever we do: land the fighters and rearm them

Any info on the size of the approaching vessels? And their speed comparing to our max

And what stations\jump beacons we have nearby?

All your sensors can say is that they're larger than the mining ship, but still smaller than the Salvation.

As for their current vs your max speed. About 5%-10%. I do feel the need to mention that the Salvation's arceleration speed is quite low.

No stations nearby, but there are several jumpbeacons. 2 Deeper into pirate territory, 1 which eventually leads to the colony area.
All are a fair distance away.

Warn the Salvation and tell them to start prepping weapons. Try to get weapons systems working on the mining vessel.

Problem is that mining vessel is quite fragile and may blow up, do we really want to take the risk?

All it has is some crappy guns and no point defense......

OK, battle plan for the combat

1) Leave 5 crewmembers (to limit possible loses) on the captured ship . May use captured pirates (supervised) to man some less important systems, because they are a)know the ship well, b) doesn't want to get blown up so will cooperate
2) Imitate running away in the direction to the safe beacon (both ships). That may force enemy to think that we aren't combat ready, then we'll surprise them with a sudden salvo from both of our ships... We may also get lucky and make them break a formation if some of their ships are faster and make mistake chasing us
3) Land fighters, reload their missiles AFAP

Ha! Let them come! We will strew their ashes across the system!!

Have our prize make for the beacon back towards civilization, with Salvation covering the retreat.

You turn the ship's around, and set course for the sector's exit beacon. Your newly acquired ship goes first, while the Salvation waits a bit to pick up the fighters, before following.
Your ship rapidly picks up speed, despite some minor stability problems. Suprisingly however, the new ships slow down rather than arcelerate, giving up the chase. Considering the fact that the distance is already to large to turn around and chase them, you just jump out of the system.

A few jumps later, you're back into civilized space. While not really one of the major interest points, the system you're in should be safe enough to do some basic repairs and check some goods.

Right.
Lets sell the mining debris and drop off the captives at whatever government group wants them.

Lucas was glad to remove the space suit, battle armour...whatever it was when he was "safely" back on the Salvation. The vessel had made the jump just after the pirate’s vessel, but his retreat was hasty and a skeleton crew composed of gun-point pirates - although at the time he did not know that - and some of the boarding party were still on the other vessel. From the talk he could gather from the other crew members who had returned he picked up that there were quite a few pirate captives on-board the pirate’s vessel. Good, at least they might be able to get a little bounty money if the Government didn't act all high-and-mighty that they were "all out of credits."

When they had docked at a nearby station was the first and only chance Lucas could use to look over the captured pirates. Cuffed with makeshift materials, the pirates were still held at gun point to a degree by the soldiers of the Salvation. Lucas just had a casual glance at them before he stopping dead in his tracks. The pirate he had just looked at had quickly turned away, but there was no mistaking it. He walked up to the pirate and forced him to look at him. Sure, there were a few more scars and ten years’ worth of grime and age, but he was certain...
"Max? Max Stormberg?" The man before him flashed Lucas a weak smile, glancing around at the armed personal surrounding him.
"Lucas, I thought that was your voice earlier. Last time we talked was ten years ago; you, me, and Jessica..." Lucas shot the man a hard look, causing him to fall silent.

There was only one thing that rang in Lucas' mind at that moment - things were about to get a somewhat worse, but if it was for Lucas or for his old companion...

Our major options:

1) Try to outfit both ships
2) Sell the cargoship as it is, use money somehow
3) Strip the cargopship, use everything , sell the rest as a scrap
4) Sell\cheaply Gift the cargoship to local government - it was owned by pirates, probably stolen, we'll get a nice reputation in the sector
5) Selling it to our colony friends, who gonna like mining, non-defenseless , ship for their colony

If we go 1,then we get several other variants

1a) Fix the cargoship, use our combined cargohold to make cargoruns
1b) Fix the cargoship. start private mining company ( should look for licenses... Doubt that they are that expensive. )
1c) Fix and improve the cargoship, turn it into an auxiliary combat ship

I am tempted by all options, but here my general plans for

1a)  Go back to the black market, Sell the missile rack (we have Salvation for missiles)\mining scanner\Heavy mining charges), use our money to fix holes. Replace mining railguns and the missile rack with point defense weaponry (We are making a cargoship here, it shoud be able to protect its), do some cargo runs, then visit our friends in colony, get the payment and travel to some far away industrial systems that need materials.
1c) While it's tempting... It's going to  be hard to improve it... First we need to find reactors... If I remember correctly we found none at black market. Then we'll need to find place for it, we could use the cargo hold for it but it's not a very safe option.... then we need to setup  either one medium sized turret or, better, several small ones, doing structural changes

3) I like this because - less managing for the GM, no great need to hire more crew, no problems with licensing of the ship and we may avoid visiting the black market and do all that in any friendly port
If we strip the ship away of it's components, we
a) Get weapon scraps from it's mining railguns (or may sell it and save some scraps)
b) Get so badly needed +1 to power from  the moved reactor (and -200 cargohold for our ship to host another uninstalled original reactor... really should find some use for those damaged.)
c) Partly fix Salvation's jumpcapacitors problems
d) We may use parts of the cargoship's engine, to partially fix our second main engine
e) Salvage all electronics from the cargoship, as it is useful thing to store
f) Use parts of the cargoship and its tedaline plates to fix Salvation's structure here and there
h).... After that mass salvation, remains of the cargoship can be sold as a scrap. No one will likely use it as a ship again, and that's good

4) I like it very much, no problems with licensing, nice reputation, maybe some modest reward for a bounty.... Of cause we should take the missiles from the cargohold, first.

5) We may trade their cargoship for that, and fill even morecargohold with whatever they mine... But they'll need months for that
