I have a horrible feeling it will be imba towards the scum team, since they have the advantage of knowing at least 10 more cards.

Oh come on- when's the last time you actually played one?

A very long time. Haven't really had time to play one with my current job. Heck, I barely have time to run them.

The game's about finding scum, not identifying cards.

Right, but his point is that it's not the scum's job to find scum, but to kill people, and that is likely to be easier to do if you have many more known cards to form a strategy...

I trust your balancing instincts, but Tolyk's point is valid: the informed minority will be much more informed, have a larger repertoire, and they don't need to find scum (well, barring faction crazyness you may conjure up).

Also question: you earlier said:
- If I get bored waiting for signups the game can be started if it has at least 9 players signed up.
How close to bored are you? Do you intend to wait for two more, or does eleven sound like a workable number? I'm not in a hurry or anything, but if you think you have enough...

Isn't that sort of the entire point of Mafia? Uninformed majority vs. informed minority?

Sure, and it's not a gripe, I'm merely saying not to dismiss Tolyk's concerns off hand. Assuming three scum, you suddenly have a team with fifteen cards (and likely a faction kill as well). It should be fine, I'm sure, but it may be a bit harder to balance than other games is all.

I agree that it will be harder than a normal game to balance, but that's mainly because there'll be a lot of abilities flying around, and therefore more potential for gamebreaking or swinginess.  I suppose scum would get something of a coordination bonus with their abilities, but I feel like that would be fairly easy to make up for considering there would be so many nonscum abilities around.

EDIT: 11 would be fine, but I think I'll give it until Saturday before starting just in case.  Dariush, you have been warned.

How so? BYOR's very similar, in that they know all their actions.

Unless this is like Roguelike... where the team gets 5-6 times the power of each player.

I feel like some of the Roguelike problems stem from a lot of the abilities being inherently better for mafia members (in particular, kill).

Something came up recently which has put me pretty far behind on certain things.
