I thought you were going to mention how the console menu lets you choose which game to play from a list of one. I figured the money along with how she has HP were mainly artefacts of using RPG maker and fit with the other video game references. They could point towards more I suppose.

Is it right that it's not being updated any more? How do we know the game is unfinished?

After watching a chunk of the LP and seeing how (Or at least one way) the money is acquired... I'm more inclined to say it's a parody of the way money is gotten in other RPGs.

Yume nikki is unfinished, as the creator has (supposedly) said the game will continue being updated, very slowly. With that said there's still an ending, so it seems complete enough. Maybe he'll end up adding more endings? Who can say.

And yeah, I think the money thing is an RPG parody, although you can use it in one place, for an entirely useless mechanic.

SO, after hearing about this from a couple different forums, I finally tried it out. And man, it is amazing. What I imagine LSD (Lovely Sweet Dreams) to be like, if I ever managed to play it. But better.

Here is how I described it to a forum friend:

I just fell asleep, woke up in a dream version of my room, went into a weird rainbow world inside a floating door, picked up a bicycle and then found a ghost that caused my head to start rotating, I got eaten by a huge red mouth, and fell into a sewer, where a fisherman took me to a weird dock.

Ya'll been doin good with the spoiler rule up to now, just thought I'd say so. More .Flow! Might haveto check out Lovely Sweet Dreams, but it's a console game (for a console that I don't own).

Started off in the Neon world today. Managed to find a cube lookin fella stuck in a big square of more cubes. Couldn't find a way in, alas. I ended up finding a couple of markings on the ground oen space apart, which I've learned by now, signals a "gate" to something. I mosey on in and find a bunch of noise tiles. One of them formed a heart, daww.

Once I moved on from there, I found a big white corridor with white tendril things coming in from the sides. Music also took a more sinister turn. Eventually found myself in another hospital related place, and ended up in a maze, that I promptly lucked my way out of, and found another hell-ish area. Seems blood themed inparticular. Blood hell? Sure. Found a bunch of.... well, shapes drenched in blood, and eventually another girl there, with a bit of blood on her face. Looked kinda rusty, too, and probably was given that a handgun shot turned her briefly into a rust person. Luckily it didn't turn her hostile, so onward I went. Found a staircase out, shortly thereafter, which led me back into a room that ook me back into the maze. Ended up finding a person in a bed, and a heart monitor on the wall. talked to it, got sent to the ocean, with a large heart monitor in it. Naturally I interacted with it, and ended up in a.... wireframe area? Hmm.

Quickly found out that the handgun made the little green eyed fellas wandering around dart away at top speed, which was kinda funny. Aside from that, mostly just plus shapes being formed by wireframe pillars. Nothing interesting in any of them, so I left when I finally found the door again. Couldn't go back to the hospital, and found out I could get here through the enterence to the ocean area, so that's good to know. Decided to head back into the wireframe area, to see if I couldn't find anything interesting. A wireframe effect would make my day. Managed to find a little... palace I guess, made out of wireframe pillars, that had a gate in it. Walked up, lead into an all white area with an incessant heartbeat. Found a little sun mark at the end, expected to go to some wierd, perhaps heart themed hell, but it just made the area free roaming, rather then a set path. Wandered around a while, finding random chunks of white floating in a void, and found the arm effect. Which is basically the medamaude effect from yume nikki. Neat.

Decided to head into eye area from here. Noticed there seems to be a "mouth vs eye" thing going on in here. The bigger mouth monsters genuinely kinda spook me. At any rate I go through a gate between two hands and step on little footprints to go to that tentacle area I mentioned before. Move through there as usual, only to head into a neon area. Mostly a maze, I eventually found a cliff you can overlook a bunch of neon looking scribbles on. Eventually found my way out, to...

A building looking over the neon world, seemingly. One of the little chuckling dudes was up there. The handgun doesn't seem to effect them. A side note is, since I got the arm effect, I now have 350/480 on the menu screen. Odd. Still dunno what it is. Wandered through the alleys above the neon lands, eventually finding another "neon city" filled with little chuckling dudes and monstrous looking chuckling guys. I see one type has an eye, and one type has a mouth. More theme. Hmm. I find another cliff overlooking a neon area. Seemingly nothing meaningful there. I teleport back to the nexus with Arm at this point, after I notice how small the neon city is. I guess the more "grassy" area with ponds was supposed to be the suburbs, and the city is the main city. Neat.

I move on to the power line pole place and after a bit of wandering find the "steel pipe" effect off a bloody pipe sticking out of the ground. I sense the knife effect analogue. And it ends up being that. I find my way into a basement looking area, that I recall leads to the area with the robot maid and orange slime from before. I move down the hallway rather then go back there. End up finding a giant eye mural that the mono eye effect unfortunately does not interact with. I go upstairs from there and find another slime, and kill it with the pipe. You can get money here too, huh. My numbers have moved from 350/480 to 440/540. I head upstairs from there to find another rotating geometric shape, that leads me to a similar place to the one I got pinned between two rust monsters at. Flower hell? There seem to be a lot of flowers around.

I wander around, there don't seem to be many rust monsters, maybe because I'm wielding the pipe? Hmm. Eventually find my way into 8 bit world from here. Find a witch and accidentally kill her once, before going back in and actually talking to her. And get the broom effect! Bike analogue. Neat. I also find a seemingly useless well. I head back into flower hell and wander around and find the two areas are one and the same. I go to the other side of flower hell, now that I can outrun the rust monsters with broom, and head down from there, on the "opposite side" of the basement area. Onthe way I notice an orangey marking on the wall that seems oddly shaped like a door. Equip steel pipe, annnndddd.....

Meat area. Goddamnit. The game has officially found a way to press my buttons folks. Nothing to do but to press onward I suppose. I find a black haired lady in front of a pool of blood. She doesn't do anything, so I move on to another door, which leads to a room filled with em. Making my path with the steel pipe I get to another door...

Which leads to a room with a giant lady fastened to a meat wall. With several smaller ones nearby. They start crumpling into bloody heaps in front of the giant one. After they all... fall apart, the giant one's belly bursts open. I can't get back out so, well, I walk up to it and hit a. Static overtakes the screen and Subitsuki "wakes up". Face analogue I suppose.

I decide that's enough for tonight.

Can't help but notice I haven't found any clothes/hairstyles yet. Maybe it's there for future game updates or something.

Beginning to think Sabitsuki has some kind of history with hospitals. There seem to be an awful lot of them, and I don't think it's juuuuust because hospitals are kinda creepy.

Giant lady is... mmmmaaaayyybbbee Sabitsuki's mother? She died giving birth to Sabitsuki perhaps? Hmm. Not quite sure if I'm buying it, but it'd explain the constant presence of hospitals too. Hmmmmm.

Numbers are up to 540/650. I notice after that.... experience, a little red spot has appeared behind Sabitsuki's computer. Maybe it's just an article of clothing I didn't notice, but I'm pretty sure it appeared there spontaneously. Hmmmmmm.

Yet more flow. I hope people don't mind that I'm doing this, I understand spoilers are kind've restricting to casual discussion, but on the other hand just not using them seems like it's prone to people accidentally reading something they didn't mean to, and whoop, suddenly that part of the game is ruined. Well. Maybe not ruined, but less interesting. And it's not like they're that big of a pain to use.

Well, after..... that, I'm ready for another jump into this. I have to say, while the game is borrowing a lot of the actual effect... effects from yume nikki, I'm still very much enjoying myself.

Lesseee.... let's go tooooooo... flower, I think. I'm curious as to if there's more of it, as I've only found one path into the ocean there. I wander around for a while, managing to go past aforementioned ocean entrance about three times before I found a ghost girl floating around. Got the watering can effect from her. It makes it rain. Huh. I also found a tooth looking guy standing in a field of flowers. Didn't seem to do anything. Other minor observations, the spirits I normally couldn't interact with, I could suddenly interact with, but only when I had the steel pipe. And I feel like the more time I spend in this area, the more flowers show up. I saw fern things I've never seen before in there this time. Hmm. Maybe the watering can did that. After more wandering, I decide to just go into the ocean. I feel like maybe there's only one exit in the shallow area,s and more in the deeper ones. Seems about right. I also noticed several of the intangible spirit things floating around, one type is white, one is black. Maybe something happens if the two touch? IF there's a cat effect analogue it's something to test later on I guess.

Into the ocean! I head straight into the palace to see if I can't find another exit. I don't. I follow it the poorly lit pathway filled with little dot faced uboa things to the ruined underwater palace, and find a way into a "hell-ish" area, with a grate over the floor. Grate hell? Heat hell? The area below the grate seems to be orangey. We'll go with grate hell until I find a better name for it. Lot of rust monsters here, the broom makes it much easier to get around them. I find something in a tube, orange head, greyish brown body, I try to interact with it with various effects, none of them did anything but the steel pipe which only served to crack the glass and presumably kill the thing. Huh.

I eventually find my way back to the plant island segment from I believe the first update. I figure maybe the watering can will do something in that plant temple thing. Unfortunatly it did not. But I did find out if you interact with the flower at the temple, the game makes a noise and the screen flashes white briefly. Hmm. There are also a ton of tooth people in there. Maybe seed people? At any rate, back into grate hell.

I find nothing else in there besides the plant area and the path back to the ruined underwater palace. And the tube thing. Maybe I should try using the diving helmet on it next time. Hmm. At any rate, onward into eye area. I wanna look around that area some more, particularly the basement/bar area. I end up finding a group of three giant mouth monsters, one of them presumably hunched over with it's mouth open. I cannot begin to say how much those things freak me the hell out, so naturally, I try to enter his mouth.

I enter a giant area filled with mouth and eye monsters, with a giggle sound upon entering the area. The game is fucking with me again. Into the breach, I suppose. I walk forward with more unsettling giggles, and find a trio of rust monsters. Maybe they're not hostile and I can interact with them? Nope. I get teleported out back into the main lobby, sabitsuki also came out of one of the thing's mouths in a kind've odd pose. I'm finding that area again and figuring out what the hell is up damnit. Despite my wanderings, I couldn't find it again. Maybe it's a once a dream/once every few dreams event. Hmmm.

In my search for the pair of arms, I find them, surprise, and find out they actually lead to the neon suburbs. I am not good at memory. I head to the phone pole area, in the hopes that maybe that area is what I'm lookin for. I find the basement area, and end back up in the snowy plant area. I try to find a way to the horrible plant nightmare beyond this place before hitting the switch that caused plant growth, but there was a pipe blocking the way, unfortunatly. I go hit the flower and start the growth, and head on down. During all this I also find the "dress" effect, which doesn't seem to do much but change the look of sabitsuki into wearing a black dress and black... head... net... thing. It looks odd. No other effect that I can see.

I head into the plant area, go down the hallway with the plants sprouting behind me, hit the end, where the pants sprout in front of you before you can continue. I go into the door there, touch the plant in that area, and go back, and sure enough that lets me go further. It gets me the plant ability, which turns Sabitsuki's legs into a mass of vines, and makes her look like she's caught the plant plague that appears to be going around in this area. I wander through the plant girl area and into a large white void filled with blood puddles and numerous bloody faced people marching to the left, to an unsettling drone. Handgun doesn't have any effect on their march. Piping them does nothing odd, except the few uninjured ones fade out slower. I find one of those black haired people from the meat cave yesterday lying on the ground, with people crowding around her. Hmmm...

Unfortunately nothing happens. I eventually find my way back to the hospital area, filled with more injured people with heart monitors lining the walls. I do notice, the final door at the far end of the hallway holds a black haired lady like the one in the meat cave. Her being Sabitsuki's mother seems more plausible to me now. I head out and back into the plant area. I wind my way through, the plant infected people don't respond to the handgun or pipe abnormally by the way, and into the deeper area of plant land. Nothing terribly new here, but I did notice, in deep plant land, in the lower left hand corner of the first room, you can find an NPC that looks like a small sabitsuki with plants growing on her. Hmm. I head into the central door here and find a lady tied to two heart monitors, being strangled by the plant growth. Interacting with her got me a "flower" menu option. Couldn't find a way to apply it though.

I head onward into an area similar to the hospital, but brownish/black. Two doors in the hallway, and on the upside people don't appear to be being strangled by plants at this point. I head into the center door and into the elevator at the end of the hallway. It sputters, and falls to the bottom, leading into the darkened hospital area from before, with the notdoor at the end of the hallway. I've got a theory for that thing today, and it involves BASHING IT WITH A PIPE. This indeed opens the door a little, into what looks like a kind've bloody opening. The screen also got this reddish spackled wavy film over it for a minute when I hit it. I am already horrified, but damnit I'm finding out what's in there.

But alas, if you try to interact with it with a pipe or any other effect, the film thing that shows up removes your effect. HMMMM. Well, I made it into a kind've gross looking wound hole thing I guess. Partial points. So many potential doors that seem to be incapable of being opened. I head back to the end of the hallway and enter the fallen elevator and end up back in brownish hospital area. This leads into the meathook area when I enter the second door. Fastforward to nurse and zombie doctor. They don't interact with the handgun... so I pull out the pipe. The doctor immediately bolts out of his "zombie" state and starts backing away from Sabitsuki and the nurse does the same. Killing them didn't seem to do anything. I head out of the area and end up in the "basement" area where the portal into the meat cave thing was (I think). I finally got back here, time to poke around some more.

I unfortunatly fall int othe same trap that I did before, namely I talked to the window looking thing which teleported me into a brownish hell area filled with pipes. I roamed around and found another robot maid, and the "tumbling doll" effect. Which turns you into an amputee with no arms or legs. Pressing shift makes you fall down. You obviously can't get back up. The fuck? I decided that was a good stopping point. No new red stuff on the floor in the real world (Maybe it's rust?), but our mystery numbers are up to 1040/1090. The gap is closing... Hmm. I also heard a "dripping" noise when I "woke up" too. Wierd.

You can change your menu by talking to the people behind the counter in the school, like the mall in Yume Nikki. The mysterious numbers increase when you pick up effects, but don't have any meaning.

Ahh, I see. Just gotta find extra ones. That's kinda neat. And I thought I mentioned I knew that the numbers went up when you found effects, but maybe I forgot to. 

Pity the numbers aren't building up to anything, though.

Kay, so we're starting out today heading to the eye area, and seeing if we can't figure out what was up with that giant mouth monster thing. I just feel like there should be something in there.

...However, on the way there, the nexus had changed graphically again. Now it looks like a big chunk of... concrete? With the normal lines going off to the various areas. Innnteresting. Maybe the effects are re assmbling the nexus (her psyche? Maybe? Not really any solid proof for that, but it seems right, anyway.) or something along those lines? Hmm. Anyway.

So, no giant mouth door thing. We move on until we get back into the basement area. Past the plants, the snow area, meathook avenue, etc. On my way through I notice the flower that triggers the plantpocalypse tones and flashes like the flower in the temple, in the plant island segments. Hmmmm.

My future explorations of the bar area reveal nothing terribly interesting. Although I do find an elevator that previously wouldn't open entirely, and steel pipe it, and walla, it opens up. No doubt this will lead into a horrible nightmare world. Well... not quite.

We enter dock hell. For those that haven't played yume nikki for some reason, a "hell" is a way I'm using to refer to a large mazelike area, that is similar to the "hell" in yume nikki. In my wanderings in dock hell, I find a lady in a schoolgirl uniform without a (visible, at least) face. Let's see what she's got to say.

She teleports me to a school in a strangely logical move. Alrighty. Basically what you'd expect from a school area, students, they react to the handgun by walking away, and the pipe by walking away. No special death effects. One difference from school, namely posters involving mouths and bloody mouths on the wall. In one room there are students and a single teacher walled off from access with desks. If you take the pipe out, the teacher gets a sinister look on his face and pulls his own pipe out. He also apparently starts drooling blood too, like som eof the bloody mouth posters. Creepy.

More exploration reveals a place to change my menu theme, (Thanks to Lectorog for lettin me know, as a side note, I kinda zone out in these games, so it's possible I would've just skipped over em.) I end up going with the orange one. There's also a shoe cubby thing with a hole in it that looks oddly door shaped. I decide to save it for later, as I get the feeling it's gonna teleport me out of the school. I enter the door off to the left, this takes me out of the school with a way back in. And the shoe cubby hole isn't a door at all. Sigh. On to the bottom floor of the school I suppose.  We appear to be on the second as a note. On this floor the posters are now open mouths. Huh. The floor is also a bit darker. I explore a bit, seems to be a storage basement, I end up finding someone that is the spitting image of sabit, except he's wearing male clothes and looks a tad psychotic. Maybe Sabitsuki is actually a dude? Hmm. I decide to come back to him later, because I KNOW he's gonna do something, and it's probably not gonna give me a path back. And I'm interested in this area damnit. I explore more, go down another floor (not the bottom apparently) and find a room where the music cuts out and the walls are lined with open mouth and bloody mouth posters. Creepy again.

I figure this place has a lot of teleporting out areas so I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet. I'm also a sucker for the music cutting out I guess. There's GOTTA BE something big in there.

It makes a scary noise (Made me jump seriously) and the rid grainy film is back. I'll have to come back to this later I guess. I'm beginning to think it ties into the rust mechanic, however that happens. Let's go see the sabitsuki lookalike. However, on the way back I notice a little sun mark on the wall before the sabitsuki lookalike. Let's check that out! I use the pipe to scare off the girl blocking the way to it, but I don't kill her. I'm not a monster (presumably).

Annnnd it does nothing. Sigh. Must just be decoration (/a placeholder). I head down to the sabit lookalike annnnnd....

It's an effect! Uniform. It replaces her white skirt with a black one, and the upper part, white shirt red tie. Not a dude, although it still kinda looks like she's wearing pants due to the model.

Back up a couple of floors. Let's see what else this sucker has to offer. In one of the rooms there's a rust monster locked up behind desks. It's non aggressive. I go into the central room and HOLY BALLS. Giant white tendrils snaking out of the ground with eyes on them. Also eye posters. Also I'm beginning to think those "open mouth" posters weren't open mouths, but rather eye sockets with the eyes removed. I save this room for later, but wow.

In another room there's a teacher locked up behind a desk. He has a pipe and appears to be crying blood. More eye posters. They're also in the central hallway, but those eye posters aren't bleeding. We go up another floor aaaannnnd walk out onto the roof balcony. There appears to be a giant more detailed, faceless version of the "teacher". The background is also black with colored sections that look kind've artifacted. I think I'll rather take my chances with the eyeball tendrils.

I head back down to eyeball tendril room. Nothin much, they also have pulled out eyes/mouths on them too. One of them is blocking the way out. Back up to giant teacher. Annnnd he gives us the tattoo effect. Kind've "star" looking patterns around the eyes. Huh. For all the horrifying stuff in here it's fairly tame as far as crazy teleportation stuff goes. Let's head to the entrance of the school. The literal one, not back to dock hell.

It opens out into a street and I can't help but think this is going to end with me getting hit by a car. This game is making me paranoid. It does not however, and there is a subway staircase lookin thing that leads directly down into the street. Onward and downward. I head out into an area that looks like the outside of the hospital area, and immediately find my way into another area that can only be described as "abstract". I went straight in, then went up a staircase/traintrack lookin thing, for those of you keeping score at home. I enter the only door annnnddd.... there's the "teacher" guy if he is a teacher, in a room wtih a bed. With a small girl peeking out from behind him. Well, huh. Naturally the first thing I do is bust out the handgun and pipe and see what happens. Handgun, nothin, trying to pipe him lead to him moving around a tad, while a voice/chuckling noise played in the background, and a white/grey mouth appeared from out of him. His mouth also got bloody, and he closed his eyes. Freaky.

I carry on along in the back alley looking area, back into dock hell after interacting with a lit up street lamp. Lesse what else we got in here. I find a slime which gives me the slime effect. Turns madotsuki into a green slimey version of erself without legs. Shift makes you melt a little bit. I also find a giant red eyeball dude sticking out from under the water. He honestly looks more happy then threatening. He is a welcome sight after that school segment. Thank you eyeball thing.

I find a humanoid dude with a hole where his face should be. Talking to him takes me back to the base neon/music world with no way back once I left the little room he was in. Oh well. Let's take a more in depth tour of the music world.  Nothin much in there, I eventually end up back in the white marble world, where I got arm, due to a series of world hops we've already done previously. I look around and eventually find something that honestly looks a little like the steam logo. I interact, and it "resolidifies" the world.

Unfortunatly, long story short, I can only seem to find other little symbols that solidify/desolidify the world. They all look different but nothing seems to hook up to anything important.

Then I got the idea. What if I hit them with a pipe. I interact with gun first, they don't react to it. And pipe.... Does nothing. Alas.

Enough for now I think. Interesting school segment, I'm kind've running out of ideas for progress, if anyone'd like to give (non direct spoilery, at least, cryptic at best) hints about where to go to find new stuff, please feel free!

The school has a lot of "scary shit" and stuff that genuinely kind've unsettled me, and really, it's not that hard to see why, it's a thing that's touched on a lot, school is scary and hard for a lot of people, and it was probably hard on Sabitsuki as well, although probably more hard then most, as I never had nightmares about psychotic teachers and giant eyeball stalks and open mouth posters drooling blood/with broken teeth.
