Before starting I remember basic japanese and remember that 2 is ni.
Yume nikki
Yume 2kki
2=ni
Yume nikki. Aaahaaahahaahah, awesome.
Fantastic. We're off to a great start. Also the constant line breaks will stop here don't worry. In we go! As we start, lemme say the character here is Urotsuki, which means "to wander" I believe. Maybe it was different, but it was something to the same effect. but yes. It starts out with a text crawl that I can't read because it's in japanese. I will just presume that it's a gigantic 2chan meme. (It's probably not.)
So, we're in Urotsuki's room. There's a wardrobe, some pillows, a glass sliding door to theo utside, there are two giant very uhh... vertically oriented mountains outside. You also go out to the roof instead of a balcony which is a neat change. Annnd obviously we can't go outside. We can open the wardrobe however. I know what I'm finagling with when we go into dream world. There's also a TV, but it's not facing the screen. There are also a few games on the little console, the other games had this too, but none were actually very good. The one I played here was actually decent and I could see myself killing time for a few minutes. Not great but not terrible. The second one I tried crashed the game. Here's hoping that's because it's incomplete and not that this is an ill portent of things to come. I save before I fiddle more with the game system. Most of them are fairly basic, however one is a yume nikki-ish thing where you wander around in a snowy area. Odd. The rest are fairly basic and no more of them crash, whew.
Anyway ou also save your game on the computer and can change up the desktop background. I know that's kind've a "sidequest" for the game, so that's neat. The TV also displays a test pattern as is tradition. Two things in the room to mess with besides the bed and computer. So enough random junk, let's get to the actual game ey?
We land on the dream balcony after a pixel art sheep leads us into dreamland. There are lights off in the distance, surprisingly normal.Nothing particularly odd is going on in the room, although I note urotsuki apparently has yume nikki installed on her computer, that's cute. I head into the nexus. Several areas as usual. I head into...
The mushroom area! Lotta little colored blobs with feet running around. And a lot of mushrooms obviously. I wander around a bit and find a cobblestone area with a vending machine. I talk to it and it giggles eeriely, and a little face sticking it's tounge out appears on it. Huh. There's also a dude with a little cart next to it. I follow the road a bit to no avail, eventually finding a watery area. Guess it's an island? Hmm. I also find eyeball stalks and a little caged in area with several "bleeding" eyeball stalks, and a little slime that's drooling blood. Huh. I also find a bizzare purple monument. Lesse if that takes us somewhere else...
Yep! A tiled area with two doors, and a steady rythmic beat in the background. After wandering around and looking through holes to see several red patterned things, we find ourselves in a waterey area with kind've warbling noises in the background. Walking onto the little extended bit in the center of the platform scrolls the camera up so you can look at the "face" of a big watery man shaped pattern in the background. Huh. Moving on we find another area with a little
face next to the door, techno-ey music in the background (I think? I'm not very good at music genres.)and no readily apparent way to move on. Back we go I guess.
We move on in the tiled area, and find a guy on the piano along with a.. fox person there? They're both fairly poorly sprited, probably intentionally. I have a chat with both. The piano guy plays a little tune for us, and the fox guy swings his hip to the right wildly. Huh. Onward. We find a pink dude in a chair, and several chairs we can sit in. Sitting in one, then pressing a button makes you hop out. Neat. The little pink guy just jumps up and down. To the north, there's a ghost and a mirror. To the left, a new area that I leave immediately, and to the south a worm looking thing that moves if you talk to the "head". The next room has a lot of spinning fires in it. We move on to a set of three colored dots. Which takes us to a road. Huh. A little machine is dancing on it but we can't speak to it. The right leads to a black and white area, the left leads to a large house that looks kind've like a face. Huh. Into the house we go.
The place is very brightly colored and there's an awesome guitar riff going on in the background. I quickly find out it's a maze as all doors lead to more hallways that look very similar. I find a balcony before I end up in a stairwell presumably leading to a basement, with a loud thumping playing. Hhhuh. In we go. It leads to a sandy area, and eventually a giant plain with telephone poles and more awesome guitar. One screen to the left leads to a giant.... kinda crab claw-ey thing sticking up into the air. Huh. Farther leads to several... what would appear to be giant jack looking things, including an opening in them we can't enter, and another way to the right which leads to more beach. All of this has been photography as a note. Walking farther reveals a giant dog looking creature roaming around in the surf, and farther still leads to a tiny thorny bush with a flag sticking out of it, and yet farther on leads to a bizzare log/dead crab thing? It's hard to say. We can't move on from there, so we walk back and end up in the house. We wander some more, passing little posts that are half green and half black that are emerging from the floor, until we find a "back door" of sorts, leading us into a yellow area with a human shadow. Huh. We head back and leave the house, since we're in familiar terrain. We head across the street to the black and white area.
It's a hotel! Huh. The first room has a strange bird looking guy in it, along with a table and some pillow things. The balcony has a cactus and some particularly shrill birds or maybe the sounds of kids playing. I dunno. We move on. The second room has three cubes with patterns on em and a little machine next to it. The cubes are red, blue and yellow, as are buttons on the machine. We hit them and it cracks the cubes. Subsequent presses do nothing. Hhhhhuh. Balcony area is same as before. To the third room! A guy in a red hat and a bizzarely colored shirt that peeps at us when we talk to him. Huh. The balcony area isn't a balcony at all, and is rather a coordinate plane with two faces with a 0 on one of their foreheads, and an infinity sign on the other. or perhaps a sideways 8. One of them has 0's zipping by their face wildly. The other has 8's. Huh. They both litterally beep if you talk to them. Heading into the back yard leads to a pale kid with no eyes. I smell horrible things from him so I move on. Leading to a new area, we promptly leave because I wanna see more of this hotel business. Of note is that room is room ... . Hmm. In the back there's also a little grate that, if you talk to, a red face appears with a little peep noise. Huh. To the second floor. The first room on the second floor has a kid with glasses on in it, and a rabbit thing bounding around. Neat. Balcony same. The next room is locked (someone with sense, finally), and the last room is a mostly bare apartment with an eye thing on a pedestal. The owner of the place is standing in front of the balcony door and appears to be a slime from dragon quest lookalike on a black box. Talking to him does nothing. Huh.
After this I look around a tad more and find two doors, but decide to duck out for now. No effects yet, but I got a new wallpaper, a white round slime thing with three hearts for eyes and a smiling mouth. Huh. Neat.
