How many people are going to fit in one of those things? It looks big enough to easily carry 20 people with a significant cargo/equipment load as well. Is it intended for surface operations only? It looks to be around three times the height of the tunnels we have seen so far in your screenshots. Any likelyhood of smaller buggies/golfcart sized vehicles just for carrying colonists/bots around inside the tunnels?

It also kind of looks like a design that with an extra armoured canopy installed over the front half would make a fairly good design for a quickly made APC or IFV.

Funny how different people see different things. To me it looked like it could carry only about 5 people, a few months of supplies, a big A.A.S for testing samples, an electron microscope and a whole lot of gripper arms for testing and science!

Kinda like the rovers they had in the mars book series.

Hmmm, wonder if the colonists will get to do any of those fun things, thats a nice thought.

This ones for surface exploration only. At some point I might add indoors vehicles. Most likely a space 1999 style tube-rail to start with.

I pulled a lot of inspiration from APC design and things like the Jackal fighting vehicle, so it's good it shows through!  :)

I was thinking 5 or 6 people too. The thing will act as a mobile base and science vehicle and has a robotic arm folded in the recess in the side for science and building (see the concept in the thread). The vehicle also has 2 airlocks and a spare wheel too so the space wont go far. (I should do a awesome cutaway drawing at some point. :)

Something that bothers me with your vehicle design though. The suspension seem like it would be way too rigid and that it wouldn't be able to navigate rough terrain very well. Consider moving the tires further out from the body to allow for space above and to give it better sideway balance

Yeah definitely. I started to fix that in the most recent screen, but its quite apparent that the wheels need another half metre of height away from the wheel guards to do proper off roading. The wheel setup will move outwards a bit, it will still remain a bit wobbly looking, but I think that's part of the charm. :)

Two things about the design, now that I look at it again. The ladder leading down from the hatch needs to be extendable, as it is the first rung would be over a meter up, assuming the human is to the same scale and is around the average six foot tall.

Secondly, there should probably be a light above the hatch pointed downwards to illuminate the ladder, as these are likely going to be operating away from external sources of light, and trying to climb a ladder in the dark is just asking for an accident.

Ditto.  Any estimation of when we might get our hands on an alpha?

Yes! The plan, given hitting our funding target is to get an early alpha out at the start of January. Got some big distributors on board with selling the alpha too.
