Terrain gen has been pretty boring so far. I've traveled a few thousand blocks in one direction, crossed a few oceans, and have seen nothing but plains and forest.

Its not terrain gen but a custom map someone made. Apparently some people have found other biomes though.

That would explain it. I remember reading about it now. Apologies.

I wanted to go into the nether.
I discovered gregtech makes flint and steel require actual steel.
I went in search of rubber so I could start making machines.
I didn't find any new biomes.
I kept going.
It wasn't pretty.

Yeah there is an 'edge' to the sea. Don't go over it.

I'm working on an update that will relax some of the more pointless gregtech stuff. I didn't like the fact that you need steel for a flint and steel to make fire which requires you to go halfway up the gregtech tree and get an industrial blast furnace, so if I can turn that off I will.

That was less of a complaint about gregtech gating access to the nether like a bastard, and more about the map missing half of worldgen. I don't even know if there's a stronghold for the End, and there's definitely no jungle or tiaga. Half the bees are inaccessable, none of biomes a plenty are there, no swamps for slimes/rubber trees(!!), it's just generally really lacking.
Just for reference, here's the overall map:

As far as I know, it does have the vanilla biomes. If you need rubber trees, I found a few and have some saplings for more. If it's really that bad though, I can set up a more standard mystcraft world or you could build a massive bridge over the void at the edge of the sea.

Oh wow. I managed to take exactly the right path to show me as much of the plains as possible but nothing else. I was wondering where those mountains you mentioned before were. I retract my previous statement.

I am itching to make several towns at certain spots all over that world, each being different with various architectural features.
Perhaps that would be best in singleplayer mode, since people probably have begun littering the landscape with their own constructions.

The biggest hurdle tough, is he little lazy guy inside me saying "It's not worth the effort.".

We could make it a community project. In fact I think I'll go scouting for a nether fortress so we can get a blaze rod for potion brewing and convert some zombie villagers.

So what's up with the teeny little pits of water all over the place?

They're puddles. They show up after rain. I think natura adds them.

Also I have a brewing stand and a rack of splash potions of weakness. Once we get some golden apples we can cure some villagers.

Alright, I've got basic power generation up now with a generator and batbox. Going to work on an industrial centrifuge so I can start accumulating some nickel. My plan is to pump up some of the ridiculous amounts of lava under my base and use it as fuel.

For now though I'm working on updating mods. I'll be adding Smart Moving in as well, and posting a full mod list.

Fun fact: Advanced machines are completely useless with gregtech in! We can't craft the basic machines because he has his own versions of them and disables the original macerator and stuff, and the rotary macerator, for example, doesn't take the automatic macerator (Greg's version).
