Better Than Wolves server, anyone?

Are you asking me to host a server with the BTW mod? I don't mind doing so, but the reason I don't use it is its pretty much 100% incompatible with other mods.

Yup. It went SMP last night.

It *should* be compaitble with wireless redstone and treecapitator, and a few others.
Forge isn't compatible, or any mods that use it.

Its looking more and more like we're outgrowing the server hardware. I'm looking at other solutions and I will get the server back up as soon as I can.

At what point does it become more cost efficient to pay for an internet connection good enough for a home server (upstream / downstream) than to pay for hosting? I guess it depends on whether you live in Canada or Japan or not :-/

Thing is, Minecraft is a memory hog, so any host that can run it fairly reliably is going to cost money...

Oh I know. I've been learning exactly how much of a resource hog it is in the last month or so as more and more people join. I don't mind though, I'm learning quite a lot. I'm going to see about adding BTW to the server I have running on the linux VPS and see how that handles. I've been slowly working out how to migrate the server from my hardware to a virtual environment which would allow me more control and better responsiveness to things like outages. I could easily automate a shutdown/restart daily, for example.

I haven't checked on recent BTW updates, but I don't really think many people would be interested in it.  It adds things, but... it doesn't add the right things, and it prevents you from adding the right things.

Even if nobody wants to play it, it won't take anything away from the current server but an hour or so of my time. Clearly at least one person would like to play BTW SMP.

have you tried the server lately? I was told it was up now. Might be a discontinuity with the dyndns service

I'd quite happily go for a BTW server, myself.

just need to find out how to install it onto multiMC.

Its pretty easy to install iirc. When I do the server I will do a pack the same as the current mod server.
