The Kingdom of Oodge - An RTD Adventure (Turn 13)
« on: June 29, 2012, 12:55:17 am »

"You know what? I bet I could do one of these."

Welcome, madam or sir, to the magnificent Kingdom of Oodge! (Though neighboring kingdoms may indeed be magnificent, Oodge is especially so, and so you have picked wisely.) We've got mountains and rivers, swords and sorcery, goblins and trolls - it's honestly a pretty diverse place.

Spoiler: Map (click to show/hide)

The people of Oodge are a happy crowd - or, at least, they were, until the crystals started appearing everywhere. Previously confined to the Crystal Cave, the crystals have begun to quickly grow out of control across the land, sprouting from the ground completely at random. When the crystals popped up in Oceantowne, Mayor Yulbar (the ruler of Oodge) called upon a team of courageous fools (you!) to journey to the Crystal Cave and seek the source of the rampant crystals and put a stop to the chaos. In exchange for your service, he has promised extensive rewards, and for good reason: the Crystal Cave is known for its great danger and mystery. Spooky.

The Lowdown
1. This is a relaxed RTD adventure with the standard rules. A roll of six is a great success, five is good, four is fine, three is meh, two is a failure, and one is counterproductive.
2. I developed this world a while back with a friend for a D&D campaign which we never got the chance to play, so there is a bunch of material sitting around on the locals and such.
3. Low magic setting: magic is cast with the help of special objects.
4. Maximum of five six players, please and thank you!
5. Dying is very possible (bwahaha) and dead players may be replaced by new ones.
6. I will occasionally draw pictures, but it should be mentioned that I have never claimed to have any kind of artistic ability whatsoever.

Name: Sneebus.
Appearance: A runty, dull-witted, buck-toothed little gnome with a wicked gleam in his eye. Yes, eye. The other was bitten out by an angry cat. Demonstrates a creepy preference for fishnet-based clothing.
Weapon: The legendary trident of Nahasphetamen! Or Gorobax, or Shalfrang. Really it just depends on which bogus story he chooses at the time. In reality it's a slightly-rusted fork.
A Special Talent: Making children (and weak-willed adults) cry by pulling mean faces at them.

Name: Bob
Appearance: A dwarf-ogre halfbreed who ended up looking like a dwarf-sized ogre. Has an empty brainless look on his face. Wears a rusty chainmail vest over simple peasant clothing.
Weapon: The DREAD DOOM SKULLSPLITTER OF DOOM (always typed in caps) - a huge crude iron greatsword - not very sharp, but three times the size of the wielder.
A Special Talent: Being strong enough to actually wield the DREAD DOOM SKULLSPLITTER OF DOOM easily and take many hits.

 Party token brainless fighter here!

Name: Olaf Yendor
Appearance: Olaf is a man of middle age, with a sour expression on his face coupled with a handle-bar moustache. His complexion is light and his hair is short-cropped. His eyes are deep brown, reflecting the hue of his 'stache and his hair.

He is nearly six feet tall, and sports broad, ropy muscles and tendons on each arm and leg.

Weapon: Fists.

A Special Talent: Brawling while keeping a stern countenance and a fierce glint in his eye.

Reserve, sheet incoming.
Name: Thanen Olobad
Appearance: Black-haired, blue eyed and tall man with a very long, thick beard which reaches his chest. It is carefully taken care of and some of its locks are held tight by well-crafted steel rings. He usually wears armor complemented by a green cloak with golden lining. People could think he was a dwarf if he didn't happen to be taller than one.
Weapon: Two-handed steel axe with a blackened blade. He calls it "Malice".
A Special Talent: Being very agile for a man his size and able to dodge well even while carrying large amounts of weight.

Six characters should be absolutely fine, I just didn't want too many more than that.

Introduction
Your adventure begins, as many do, in a small, wooden hut, as you gather around a rectangular table, quietly eating cold onion soup while listening to a large bearded man wearing nothing but a loincloth, a leather belt and a rather smallish helmet as he explains the details of the journey ahead. The midsummer sun is just setting now, casting long shadows across the room and setting an ominous mood. Coals smolder in the fireplace, filling the air with thin strands of grey smoke.

"As you know, the Crystal Caves are fraught with many varieties of perils. The mouth of the cave is set into the side of a cliff facing the sea, and can only be accessed when the tide is low. Because of this, you must be quick, or the cave will become your watery grave. I suspect whoever is behind this will not go down without a fight either. He who masters the Cosmic Personalities of the Sacred Crystals would gain immense and terrible powers, and so we must be hasty to stop any tampering. The Sacred Crystals themselves will no doubt be angry at trespassers, and so you must be wary of any magical traps as well."

The mayor yawns and scratches himself before continuing.

"I will send you with supplies for three days of travel, easily enough to make the daylong journey there and back. You will leave early tomorrow morning, arriving just as the tide is receding. You should have around three hours inside the cave, though the Crystals' magic has been known to cause temporal distortions."

If you have anything to ask or tell the mayor, you may do so now. Otherwise, you may retire to your homes and sleep so as to be well-rested come the early dawn.

Glancing at the map Mason asks a question.
"What is this place on the map marked "Dont Go Here!"

Thanen gives a strange look at Ardan before looking back to the mayor.
"Oh, yea. You promised us rewards, but you haven't shown any solid proof to back up your claims."

The dwarf-looking lad crosses his arms and stares with narrow eyes at the Mayor.

Sneebus just sits there, his eye darting back and forth as he finishes the soup. His table manners are rather lax.
Then he'll let off a loud (well, rather squeaky) belch, giggle disturbingly and sit back, listening.

Olaf leans on his chair and kneads his knuckles. "What kind of temporal distortions, and how many known exits from that cave are there?

We can swim our way out, aye?"
