They take about 3 ingame days to do any non-negligable damage, but they work.

I'm actually a great proponent of luring the beastie back to my home lair, then raising the corpses of the hordes of mega beasts I've slaughtered to overwhelm the BC and soak its attacks while I chop it's limbs off.
