Some of you may remember my last attempt at
this, which did not turn out so well. But this time, given a significantly larger amount of free time (with finals being over and all
) I am confident in achieving some degree of success! The let's play will function in the same way as my last attempt, with some minor changes to ensure a smoother experience (in addition to now playing firefight version 5.0!). As for the minor changes, I will be imposing a strict 24 hour limit to responses, if a day has passed with no order given, then command of the squad in question will be temporarily transferred to the highest ranking officer present, awaiting a replacement commander (so be sure you will have enough time before signing up!). I will also be spending some time livening up the turns with background info, snippets of what I hope to be interesting narration describing important events, and a command system, which I will go into detail on in the future. For today, I will hopefully be recruiting (go ahead and reserve a position, I will make a list for people to decide order, keep in mind that this game has persistent units, so you will be replaced when and if you die) and we will also be deciding on a country to play as. The options are; American, American Marines, Australian, British, Canadian, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, New Zealand, and Russian.
These will be the current standing rules, open to change
Everyone controls a single squad, and can tell me exactly what they want me to do with that squad (if we have mortars, 1 person get's 3 of them, and anti-tank is attached to a command squad, if we have tanks, we are then an armored aspect of our division, and should be adjusted as such, I'm sort of going for historical accuracy).
I will give info to each person, in spoiler form, of screenshots of key locations that they can see, as well as themselves, with emphasis on WHAT THEY CAN SEE, and circle important information with a key (I'm relying on honor system to not look at each other's).
You may attempt radio contact to each other, based on location, and it may or may not be available, if it isn't, you either have to work to establish it, or take initiative on your own.
The person who gets the command squad can call in artillery, and gives basic directives to everyone else, as well as having the most important radio, but he MUST SURVIVE.
There will be one staff seargeant (in the 3 person smg squad) with an additional command role, in charge of 2 squads (in that he gives general directives to these 2 squad's leaders). He helps spread out radio contact, but is still subordinate to the player in charge of the leftenant's HQ squad.
You guys can vote on who has these two command positions (Leftenant's HQ squad, and staff sergeant's squad).
If there are any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to post them; as for the game itself, for now I would like to limit posts to A)
Signing up for a spot (possibly giving a preference for unit type, but keeping in mind that this may change) and B) voting on the country we will play for. Good luck!
Also; which do you guys prefer, in general, thumbnails or spoiler'ed pictures?
So far we have;
Warhammer651: In order; tank, AT gun, mortars or anti-tank squads
Burnt Pies: MG squad
Stabbymcstabstab: Rifle Squad
a1s: In order; a tank, SP Artilery, Tank Destroyer, Mechanised Infantry, Line Infantry, or Recon troop
Azkul: Infantry squad (of some form)
Scelly9: Mechanized Squad (preferably with heave weapons)
MonkeyHead: AT gun or Tank
Euchre Jack: recon/infantry.
Elfeater: infantry squad.
Additionally; just so those of you who don't play this game know, it is extremely simplistic while at the same time very realistic. To me, this makes it a perfect lp, because now I can add some narration and background on the characters (who are all named).
