What makes the best adventure worlds?
« on: June 13, 2012, 05:48:30 am »

When I create a world, my worlds are normally quite boring, what options do you guys choose? Do you use the advanced parameters option, it looks too complicated for me... So what are the best options to use for a world, I normal use about medium history, fairly small world with high savagery and beasts.

Try a short history with high beasts, savagery and sites.
The longer the history, the more beasts were killed, which makes the world more boring. A high number of sites results in a lot of camps, lairs and towers.

Well, i'm not so sure.

Dragons, minotaurs, and others beasts can breed, and WILL breed. I have had one dragon who had 15 children. Of course many were hunted and killed. But still, in 500 remained 4 or 5 as well as the 2 parents.

If you create a world with a lot and lot of mega beasts and semi mega beasts, they will multiply.

Just put 4 times more creatures with advanced parameters. With that, and a very large world, I am still in "age of myth" after 500+ years.

If you create larger world, Megabeasts will wander a long time and will be less dueled. They will breed and multiply out of human presence.

Longer gen = more camps, more sites, more lairs and more towers/tombs.
Just set the amount of Titans to 10000.

Not titans, megabeasts caves !

In this case, the longer the history, the more dragons you will have with the effect of breeding (and the bigger their lair, the higher their age). You will get more tombs, too. And the world will be more dangerous for you

I don't think megabeasts breed, at least without modding.

Cyclops, hydras rocs and all organic megabeasts or semi megabeasts breed. Only Titans, daemons, night creatures (but some do) and Bronze colossus don't.

I'm trying in my current fortress to make 2 minotaurs breed.

NOT together though, there's no interspecies breeding yet.

With a 1500 years world, an unlimited number of sites and population (to test if a heavily urbanized world can kill all the beass) and with a "smaller region" (and 40 civ), and a very high number of beasts, I have dragons who have survived, some who are of the 3rd or 4th generation and about 50% of the titans dead. I am still in "age of myth".

100 MB
200 SMB
50 Titans
30 Demons

Don't forget to have a quite large moutain (or evil or frozen) zone which will serve as "natural park" to help MB to reproduce.

If you are using default world generator settings, typically Pocket, Smaller, and Small worlds will see Megabeast dying out around 100-150 years. Sometimes a couple survive and in Pocket Mode of course they can sometimes trigger the Age of 'Megabeast'. Medium and Large worlds will typically have Megabeasts surviving for a good while, even well into 1050 years.

Longer History worlds contribute to there being more Bandits and more experienced Bandits, more Towers, more Tombs, and what not. It also gives the in-game deities more time to curse Goblins, Dwarves, Elves, and Humans to become Vampires or Night Creatures, and by that also allow Vampires to form Cults or even take over Civilizations.

Number of Civilizations and Number of Sites are also important for effecting the amount of Civilizations available and sites for Hamlets, Towns, Fortresses; etc, but it also allows for more Historical Figures and and more populated world.

Generally I make worlds I plan to adventure in with-
Small Size: 125 Year History, Very High Civilization, Very High Number of Sites, Very High Beasts, Very High Savagery, and Frequent Mineral Occurrence.
or Medium Size: 250 Year History, High Civilization, Very High Number of Sites, Very High Beasts, Very High Savagery, and Frequent Mineral Occurrence.

I would prefer worlds with Very High Civilizations in Medium Sized worlds but I tend to get a lot of rejects in the default world generator when I try to make those worlds. Sometimes I make Medium Worlds with Longer Histories.
