One could argue that it is realistic, by pointing to the disclosures about the NSA and how they reportedly have created tools so that they basically only have to click a button to own your device.

(I'm not saying I think it's a good, bad, fun, or unfun game mechanic, though - I haven't played Watch Dogs, so I wouldn't want to try to judge it on that basis without having tried it)

I don't know if this has been posted before but I found this on Reddit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnwVvAviNVk&feature=youtu.be&a

I played a few hours of it and I agree that it's a pile of crap that hides behind a veneer of glitter.

The game is fine. It's Red Faction: Guerilla-tier but it was marketed as being a GTA killer and suffers for it.

This guy should get on their Q&A team... he seem to find it all :)

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

The thing that I find the most annoying is how sometimes I'm driving perfectly fine and people act shocked and scream like I'm on a rampage.

Game is a pretty cardboard box with little substance, highly linear, repetitive, unemergent gameplay. Actually, frankly I'm amazed at how the devs of these games time and time again can build a robust open world and completely fail to use it to its full potential ON PURPOSE ! Though I realize I'm looking for another kind of experience, as a themepark ride this is above decent no doubt.

I'm pretty disappointed in the Hollywood hacking.
^This. Apparently all you need to become "le super hacker" is a smartphone app.

In a hypothetical scenario where the local government is full of retards who digitize and connect everything and is lead by a head retard who enforces cloud-computing on shit like analog fences and gates, and said hacker has a team of about 10 guys constantly writing apps for him then yes, such gameplay would be plausible.

What you do is getting a backdoor into the system that surveys the area which you do physically and then you interact with said system through your phone, and i assume that there is coding to be done to set that up which i guess is reasonable.
Though that said, It still hollywood hacking.
Driving and shooting is clumsy at best, cover system can be annoying, didn't really bother with any side missions because it just did not seem interesting. Plot is meh and the most used weapons were silenced pistol and grenade launcher.

I like how there's never a police response when I initiate what can best be described as an act of terrorism in the heart of Chigaco. Apparently, handgrenades, explosions and assault rifle fire isn't actually a problem so long as you're doing a campaign mission  :D

Basically this. The hacking is actually pretty good, the main character knows he needs someone who's actually a programmer and that's totally how it plays out. The whole smartphone thing is perfectly plausible as an inconspicuous computer linked up to some powerful secrets.

Now, that's not saying that the hacking is actually plausible at all, because a core game mechanic is using cameras. You need line of sight to hack things using your smartphone and that line of sight bounces through cameras. I don't know that much about computers but I've never heard of something so ridiculous as hacking into a camera and then bouncing through them in order to get to the camera's origin. Also people carry around explosives that can be detonated remotely when going against a guy who's a dangerous hacker.

Happens in Shadowrun and I've been calling "bullshit" on it for a decade.

Wouldn't hollywood hacking be pulling up a window with green text and typing HTML to break in?

yeah, you can't have real hacking without green text.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

yeah, you can't have real hacking without green text.

And rapid-fire typing. And possibly acne, depending on the year the movie was made.
