Italy would still enter the war, albeit a year later (if it's historical).
So, why not sooner than later, when she had the time to prepare?

Well, history can change. What we need is to get ready to hold the German onslaught.

Is there a way to get the Brits to send in more troops?

Italy will only enter the war if we lose Paris - the opportunist bastard that Mussolini is, so as long as we hold, it should be fine.

Yep. Mussolini has more bark than bite now, since historically the Italians shouldn't be ready for a new war until... 1941? 42? Something like that. Attacking Italy will just open up another front that is much less well prepared than the Maginot Line. Also we'd be facing the brunt of the Italian Army, but nobody really cares about that.

If we have any armors lying around, we could try to make a rush for rome and hope to trigger a surrender event

yeah, then we could hold the line, while the germans *free* mussolini and have him forced with the Salo Republic.

What I'm afraid is that if Germany doesn't defeat us, Hitler might never attack the Soviets, then we'll have to defeat him without Russia and face a hugely strong Russia after that.

Well, if this all works out, we'll have Europa all to ourselves - FRG, Hungary, Romania; and don't forget Asia, from Japan to China - all of them will be our allies when we come down to a showdown with the USSR. Sure, the Soviets will be stronger, but so will we.

I would strongly suggest taking and holding Saarbroken ONLY.

July 30th, 1939 (Continued)

Troops in Hirson, Sedan, and Longwy on the Belgian border have been diverted to Metz, in preparation for an assault on Saarbrucken.

August 2nd, 1939

In a first act of aggression on us, German bombers have slipped across our borders and have bombed our air installations in Paris.

German Bombers above Paris.

August 6th, 1939

The attack led by Lieutenant General Cornille on Saarbrucken has begun! It seems as if our troops are slightly more advanced technologically than the German troops, at this rate, we may have Saarbrucken within a few weeks. We've also begun a bombing run on factories in Stuttgart.

August 15h, 1939

The Soviets have invaded Poland, proclaiming that they aim to protect eastern Slavic peoples in eastern Poland from the Nazi invasion. Our Polish allies are pleading with us for help, however there is very little we can do for them now.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

August 24th, 1939

Poland has been defeated at the hands of the Russian backstabbers and Nazi jingoists. The Nazis have honored their "pact" with the Soviets and ceded certain territories in eastern Poland.

German and Soviet officers meeting in occupied Poland.

August 25th, 1939

Since the fall of Poland, we've nearly won the battle of Saarbrucken. Although our troops are ecstatic about the possibility of recapturing the Saarland, there is fear of a surge of German troops now that they are relieved on the Polish front. Should we continue the attack, or fall back to the safety of the Maginot?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now's the time to suggest something if any of you have been holding out on any tidbits that can save our ass, cause I'm not sure we can hold onto Saarbrucken (if we even take it) for long.  :-\

Your attack will probably succeed, as indicated by the bar in your combat overview.  Saarbroken is fortified, so you have that going for you.

I'd suggest diverting your bombers to either crater the Nazi's airfields or bomb their nearby troops.  Destroying IC is all nice and good in the long run, but you need an advantage now.

Set up fighter coverage over Paris and our troops.  If you have any fighters left over, they can strafe enemy soft targets (those machine guns can hurt infantry a bit).

Also, the troops that the Nazis used in Poland will take at least a month to transfer to the Western Front, so you're probably ok.  That should give you time to dig in at Saarbroken.  Inevitably, you'll be attacked from three directions at Saarbroken, but you can have your troops south of the position attack the Germans bordering them and attacking Saarbroken.  You can always fall back to the Marignot Line...

Do you have any tank/motorized units?  What are they doing?

I'm honored your taking my suggestion, I hope it works out for you.

That enemy airfield in the North East looks like a very tempting target for bombing.

Shame there are no Paratroops for you to lead, eh MonkeyHead?  You could "drop in" on the Germans.
