For me, now, whenever I see some stones or a cliff face, I realize it's not "rock", it could be any different kind of different kind of stone.

It re-defined my expectations from videogames.

That is to say, I find it much harder to enjoy games where I can't make tallow biscuits out of kittens and kill nobles for annoying mandates.

It's a curse!  but one I can glean some elitist joy out of.

I've built a danger room inside my kitchen because I refuse to use them within the game since they're way overpowered inside the game.

I'm currently getting a major in geology. Passed a year so far with flying colors.

Has DF changed my life? No, not really.

Whilst the game itself hasn't the role-playing forum has pretty dramatically, I accidently formed a role-playing group there and as a result am setting up a company, changed my career path from photography to web design, talked someone through life problems and essentially out of suicide, and provided the initial inspiration for that persons life work. So all in all through an awfully large amount of coincidence DF has completely changed my life.

My average fell a bit because I cancelled studying in order to play Dwarf Fortress.

Oh well
